More turbo help........

Post by Vulcanised »

a little advice needed on a turbo...... i'm not after high boost, or high rpm's. I'm looking at about 6-8psi, quick spool up, and work best between about 2,000 and 4,000 rpm on a 5.0 litre V8. A guy i was talking to, who is a mechanic seemed to think that something along the lines of a T3/T4 combo would work, but might run out of puff at high revs.... and if i run low boost, could do it fairly easily without a lot of modifications to my engine management. It already has a HSV chip in it.

I got the nod of approval from the Minister for War & Finance :D i just have to find me a turbo at the right price, and get it installed

One T28 each side. Disco potato perhaps.

The minister for war and finance is going to hate that reply. :D

i thought of one small one each side...... but takes a lot more work to install. the way the zorst runs..... it would be a piece of piss to run both pipes up to a turbo manifold and plumb the turbo straight into the throttle body

its its a holden v8 why not bolt on a yella terra terra charger kit? will do what you want, comes with fuel controller, injectors and all too, only thing is it's running a belt at the front of the motor which might require regular changing depending on ur conditions

what happened to the supercharger idea? I thought you had a good option lined up at the right cost? wouldnt it be better to gain the low down power and torque than a turbo set up?
If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!

A Disco Potato is just a pet name for one of Garrett's turbo's, the GT28RS Ball Bearing model.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Displacement range: 1.7-2.7L
Output Range 250-320 horsepower.
Compressor Wheel Diameters – 1.86â€

nah not one at a good price..... about 6 grand for a stage 2 kit to bolt directly to the 5 litre...... It's not too bad down low at the moment... and with the auto, in low range it is always working up around 2,000 rpm anyhow. I'd love a supercharger for it....... but it would cost me as much as a divorce lawyer..... so i would have to double the purchase price

At the OBC recently was having a look at Phil Swindales new rig (or Manni's old one!) it runs a Terra Charger from memory or an Eaton M90 can't remember. Basically it looked like a carby valley with a custom adaptor with the charger sitting on top, simple but effective. It worked pretty well and seemed to ahve heaps of go, although I am sure that motor has had heaps of work done.

there is a blower kit on evilbay at the moment, it's up around $3,200 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... &rd=1&rd=1

There is a turbo off a r32 skyline on there with a reasonable "buy it now" price...... not sure if i would get a high enough flow from that size.....

I'm in no real hurry at this point in time. A bit more research first.... then i'll make it happen later in the year when i settle into my new job and pay back some of the debts i incurred while i was out of work.

Yeah fair enough, nothing worse than having debt hanging over your head.

I wouldn't buy a kit if I were you. You can pick up an Eaton M90 charger off a commodaore of the like for around $600 if you are patient. Then get a carby valley for it. Then you would just need to get the adaptor made up, maybe you know someone who can fab one up for you.

from what i am told......... ;) what ever i pay for the turbo, plus a hunjy or 3 to get the zorst and the oil line sorted...... I'm not looking for anything flashy or rice.... just 6 to 8 pounds of boost, non-intercooled.

Another random thought.

The turbo from a 4L falcon might be a good start for what you want, there must be a lot of people out there who've upgraded and have one to hock off.
