GQ 4.6 Diffs

Post by Nor »

I would like to get some feedback about 4.6 diffs.

I found a local parts dealer, who's not very bright, so I'd have to check out the diffs he has, and determine which one is a 4.6 and if it's good or no.

Can anyone give me details on where and what to look for?

Thnx!

In Australia, they are marked on the compliance plate on the firewall what ratios are in that car. HG46 should be 4.6's

Look for wear on teh gears.

I think what he wants is if the diff center is out of the vehicle in front of you how do you tell the difference between a 4.6 and a 4.11 or a 3.9 do the centers have any markings or are there numbers stamped on the crown wheel that you could see

count the pinion teeth and crownwheel teeth and divide. eg 41 c/wheel and 9 pinion = 4.555

Just reading some other topics at the same time. I have GQ ute, can I get 4.6 ratios 2nd hand or do I have to go aftermarket?

Thanx alot guys.

1 more question.

My rear diff is a 3.9 LSD (limited slip) with an in-cab electrical switch to activate the lock.

If I get the 4.6 R&P, can I fit it into the same shell and use the LS locking system?

Try looking at Diff centres out of a 2.8 Turbo Patrol, you will find they are 4.6. Or try 4wd systems in South Australia.

Hi,

The 4,625 diffs are mounted in GQ RD28T engine. On the crown side there is stamped the gear ratio.
Use only the pair: crown and pinion, not separate ones...
It fits on H233 axles.
I was on the way to sell mines as I changed it for 5.1, but since I own a TD42 LWB, I keept it, maybe I will change it to the TD42 (I run 33 BFG AT at the moment..).

Best regards to all of you, Gabriel

Well just did some Internet Banking and going by the statment, best I can do this week is the stale mars bar that got lost under the drivers seat 6mths ago (ps the air compressor is next to and it is pushed up against the trans tunnel with no carpet - so maybe melted abit).
But just for interest sake what sort of coin are you thinking of for them.
