Really? I have never heard of this problem with any of the MT range. I have ran the Claws in some of the harshest terrain in Australia at sub 5psi pressures and have never had even a single puncture.

Before anyone comments, yes i was previously sponsored by MT but this doesnt change what i have seen or heard. And as a former sponsored user of their products i have prob had personal contact with more MT users than most.

Bias. But you never mentioned anything other than MT tyres are officially crap

And most of the users of MT tyres that i have experiance with would have run Radials. And again i have NEVER heard this issue before from any of them.

had the outer sidewall explode top and bottom simultaniously?? at the last allterrain on a log running 12psi. it was stuffed so i just kept going on it.(radial) still have it at home, have to fit old tyre for next round. thanx 4 the reminder.

i've had three sets of goodyear wranglers and never popped one. even when there was no tread i was tryin to destroy them, and couldnt. i recently brought a set of micky thopmson mtz, had them on the rig for three weeks. second trip out they started poppin. so i am goin back to goodyear's.
so soon i will have a cheap set of mtz for sale after the repairs.

1 punture at about 2000km

wearng ok now at about 30k

As for the good years my mate had 2 sets of mtrs going around oz 4 of them all died in 20k the other 4 were good.

luck of the draw I guess.

mtrs hole the size of had middle of tread driving on tar with 35 psi.

The MT rep told me that my tyres are not load rated to go on my gq patrol.

Funny they have a poster with them on a GU a HEAVIER car than mine.
get under it

No complaints from me. All the sets i've had were radial Baja Claws. I've had 31's, 33's, 35's and 37's, only ever had one puncture on a 33 a few years back when i accidently drove over a sheep carcass and copped a bone into the main tread. Never had any sidewall issues though.

I think its a fairly bold statement to just call a brand of tyre "crap" in general, especially considering (from what you said) this is the first set you've ever had.

My current rear 33's (getting replaced tomorrow) were a bit hard, and borderline unroadworthy on our last bush trip where they copped an absolute hiding on sharp rocks. There were two guys on the trip that actually ruined their previously good tyres (none of the MT's) on the sharp rocky surface to the point of having them thrown out when we returned. They were on similar cars to mine, driven with similar style.

Coxy

PS. We usually spell it "tyres", not tyers.

...This thread is funny. I went through six BF muddy K/O's in 2007 whilst also running balding radial 35" claws with 750000 million trillion klicks on them. Cant break em. Or at least they wanna outdo my last two BFG muddies. Run them at 8psi all the way to 35psi. Have punctured the tread a bit and are full of plugs. But sidewall? No issue. Or just lucky. Ran from narrandera up the oodnadatta, all the way to the rock and back fine. Prolly ten year old tyres now which may also help.
...or a bad batch came into the country.

My vote: they be heaps better than BFG Mud K/O. Got nothing on me Interco Thornbirds but. Yet to see anything that remotely comes close as being a tyre for all different terrains.

never had sidewall damage but hate them anyhow. more of a road issue than offroad. I have MTZ's on my wagon, after you go offroad then reinflate they take a copule of days to go "round" again. :bad-words: They are a pain for that but off road seem sweet.

I can't think of anyone who would think highly of a 35" MT radial claw as a road/sand tyre...
They are just too big and aggressive. If you want no sidewall flex, responsive braking, tyres that stay in balance & handle well on the road, buy some 31" pirellis or something... :?

I'm still on my first set of claws (3 years later) and other than being a bit big/difficult to balance, I can't fault them. never damaged one and even with the tread as worn as it is, they still grip like shit to a blanket for the stuff that I'm doing...

And going by the poll I'd say that they aren't "officially crap"...

I've had my set of ATZ's now for 10 months / 30,000km.
They have been used for alot of city/road, long distance towing and fire trail style driving. They are wearing nicely and I am very happy with them.

The Mickey Thompson MTZs is the best tyre I have come across so far. No issues with the sidewalls.

Never had a problem with Radial Claws after 2 years off weekend warrior work at 15psi on the same set. They don't get treated nicely either.

Cheers
