beedlock are also for when ur keen on dropin ur tyre pressure under 10psi. with out beedlocks u are prone to roll a tyre off ur rim but with these little suckers on u can safely drop it down to 5psi or lower.
as far as i know there are two types external which u see most common and are bolted to the outside of ur rim and then there are internal ones with are like a tube inside ur rim

Internal beadlocks (secondair) are legal, but i'm pretty sure you are "supposed" to have them engineered as you have to modify (drill a hole) in the rim.

External beadlocks are probably the more effective/hardy option, but they are NOT legal anywhere, unless you get them engineered (good luck!).

Use the search function and search for "beadlock". Plenty of info on here about them. Do a google image search too so you can see what they actually are.

whats the reason for them being illegal? is it to do with side impacts/crashing etc and the tyre not deflating?

No its the bolts coming undone and the tyre coming off...

Some are also prone to really bad balance if put on wrong....

no its because the inner ring has to be welded to the rim

I've got Walker Evans rims and they are still not legal even with the inner ring part of the rim casting itself.........

I'm pretty sure someone on OL got a set engineered. With a great deal of expence and difficulty too.

so if someones done it and a precedent has been set - why cant you guys copy the method? surely now the legwork is done and the same engineer would sign off on the same mod done on a different vehicle?

Around my nick of the woods, as long as your car is clean, and doesn't have a 200dB 8 inch exhaust, your pretty safe. I doubt very much ANY of "the locals" would know what beadlocks are anyway.
