I Have a set of standard stomberg carbs on an 86 3.5l rangie, i'm sick to death of the carbs giving me hassles, was told that the holly carb is a better option, if this is the case, what should i be looking for, 2 barrel , 4 barrel etc. and about what should i be paying for them.
If you cannot get Strombergs to run correctly, then I doubt that you will be able to install injection.
Strombergs are about the simplest trouble free thing there is. There are let me see about 3 or 4 moving parts.
I suggest that you perhaps have them overhauled by someone who knows them and they will go for years without adjustment.
It will cost quite a lot to install injection. I have done it with Federal Injection on a 77 but the gains were virtually nil on a stock 3.5. and it is a LOT of work.
You have to either use an injection tank or make up a swirl tank,all the fuel lines need to be replaced with high pressure lines which is very expensive, you need to organise and buy a pump, filter etc and work out somewhere to put them.
The actual placing of the injection on the engine is plug and play, except you should grind a notch in the top of the ports for injector spray clearance.
If you get injection, try to get the manifold, loom, ECU, fuel lines , tank(with pump) etc. If it is only a manifold or bits are missing give it a miss.
Its the bits and pieces that will nickle and dime you to death.
