Well dave , by seting it up this way, most of the vehicles that are used every day are not allowed to compete. How can having to buy and set up another vehicle be called keeping costs down. I thought the idea of this was a street class for 4x4 owners that don`t want to have a full blown race truck but still would like to have a go. Some may go on and do xwc and some may be happy to do a minor class. The way i see it , if you don`t have a gq/gu td42t swb,ute or wagon you may as well spectate.
ofr57 wrote:hi dave i was just wondering if you are allowed to change control arms to an after market version (off the shelf)

Front lower arms must remain standard, castor bushes are allowed.
You are allowed adjustable panhard rods
Upper and lower rear arms may be aftermarket but not adjustable

Mate I know what you are saying. But rules have to come into place to make this work.
Most of the questions I have been asked "can I take my diesel out and put in an EFI petrol or can I take my carby motor out and fit an EFI" answer:-
Unless it came out in that year NO.
If the excuss is it floods on hills, sorry. Fit it with gas. My old 2.8 would run on hills that you will be expected to do.
In my opinion the reason for the EFI swap is more power to get an edge. And in a very short time $$$$$$$$ and a heap of it, will be thrown at these motors as what has been done in XWC. After all any competition is competition and people want to win.
If this happened it could make it a very expensive sport, so we would be back to square one. Anothjer XWC with smaller tyres.
Now this has started I have a clear plan of what I want, if it does not work at least I have tried.
If anyone else wants to run an event go for it and they can have what ever rules they want.
This is what I feel is needed (now that I have committed after all these years of being asked) and it will bring new blood to other events not just the XWC. I have always tried to make Xtreme Event rules very fair with no one gaining from them.
Keep the questions coming.
Cheers

on the rops thing utes cant have an internal as in queensland you cannot have barwork forward of the driver so if you use a ute u will have to have a expensive rops tray or second hand
specs on rops should be available from mine corp in brisbane...
and a short question - Snorkels? and under body bash plates??

Just to clear a few things:-
1:- You cannot have a 3" lift in a Vitara, you are only allowed to go 1/3rd more then standard bump stop height. By doing this it keeps the vehicle legal.
2:-Hate to disagree but Queensland Dept of Transport rules allow roll cages starting at the "A" Pillar. I know I have had mine over the pits.
3:- Snorkles would be very advisable and I have no problems with under body bash plates.

the roll cage thing is interesting as in my day job we supply rops to NSW and QLD and we were under the impression that nothing was alowed infront of the driver for QLD.

Keep the question coming
Yes you may think that this is being a bit hard on some vehicles, yes it is to keep it fair.
It is not if you have not got another event that you can enter with a vehicle outside these rules, you have, the XWC.
There is an event for all vehicles some strict some not.
Keep the question coming.
Cheers

Hi Tim, suspension height is calculated by measuring the vehicle at full drupe (spelling?) etc wheels hanging. Between bump stop and where it hits on diff housing. You are allowed to increase that by 1/3rd. etc:- if it were 300mm you could increase that to 400mm = 100mm this measurement should be shared both up and down evenly. Which would mean a lift of between 50mm and 75mm, making it road legal.
You would find that 50mm on a Patrol or Cruiser is OK, 75mm would just scrape in.
As for the airbag question, that is up to the owner to get a compatible winch bar. I very much doubt that we will see an airbagged vehicle competing. That question would also fall into the area:- "Not my problem".

Codrivers must be 15 in the year of competition. That would mean your son will be 15 in 2009 making him your codriver for the Series.
Will be looking at venue in the next couple of weeks.

can we bring our vehicle to you to go over and let us know what to do to fit into a class?
have you thought about running an extreme class with these guys? Alot of us already have 4inch lift, 35's, beadlocks, drop arms/boxes and stanard type engine mods for 4x4ing with our mates or clubs. We want to compete but dont wont run with the big boys.
What are your thoughts Dave?

Hi, most of what you listed is illigal on the road. But not to worry on my shorty I have been running 35's for more then 6 years.
If anyone is interested I am prepared to put on an info day. I can check vehicles and answer any questions direct.
Best date for me will be Sunday 21st September. So if anyone is interested, BYO bbq lunch and drinks at my place. I can have a look and advise if necessary.
Mate you do not have to worry about the big boys I was out there for 4SS in Stirlo's event and had fun, it was the first time (apart from twice in Malaysia) that I have driven in competition since '98. Some of you guys would still have been at Primary School then. If I can compete with them anyone can. Those guys are only too happy to advise and give you tips. It is not them that you have to worry about, could be me
I can also look at any vehicle before that when I am home.
Or come and talk to me at the EFS mini XI.
Going to the Cape (survey for Angel Adventure) end of August and back on deck 15th September.
Cheers

Are you saying I should do the SSS winch challenge and not an xwc?
Will adjustable panhards allowed?
Would be keen on the gps stages.
You could penalize trucks like mine on a percentage points system where you only get 75% of your score as a penalty for having a mod.
