be a squeeze- How much bigger is an LS2 compared to a 1UZ- I know the 1UZ is pretty tight.

despite the fact that it wont fit.

it will blow every part of the hilux drivetrain to pieces.

May as well bolt the hilux body to the GQ and fit the engine.

The ls1 or ls2 will fit in a hilux body. Theres a few running around in 2wd hiluxs and id imagine the engine bays are identical between a 2wd and a 4wd. Heres a pic of one. The inner wheel guards are modified cause the car is air bagged and it allows more room for the tyres to tuck up. There was more room in the engine bay with the original inner guards.

I believe an LS2 is dimensionally smaller than a 1UZ

I would go for it, they are a great engine, and fairly light. You will need to use a truck sump, prob need custom extractors, etc. I would recomend using the holden auto trans, Will be stronger than any hilux box, and it is much softer on the diffs etc. You may want to look at rear mounting the radiator, Not easy to get a good sized radiator in the front a V8 hilux.

Sure you may snap diffs, and axles, blah blah, But thats half the fun :D
