mounting gauges in a GU...

Post by built2redline »

i had some guages left over from another car and i decided to make a couple of pods for the GU

so i went to the local bunnings and got myself 2 x 50mm PVC 90degree bends.

these fit the gauges perfectly
Image

cut the PVC to size

Image

checked the position
Image

pulled out the pillar cover and drilled a 54mm hole with a hole saw
Image
Image

54mm was big enough for the PVC to fit snugly

Image

test fitted the pillar cover and marked the position for the second gauge
Image
Image

repeated the process for the second gauge
Image
Image

and fitted them again to the ute.

Nice work mate.

Even the Missus liked it.
First comment was "Why didn't you think of that before spending so much money on a pillar pod?"

thanks guys . ill post more pictures as my little project progresses.

the mechanical oil press guage is just a stand in for the time being..ill be replacing it with a pyrometer as soon as i fing one in celcius and not farenheit.

i learn my lesson in the old car where the oil gauge leaked into the dash....NEVER AGAIN!!

Looking good!
I might have done that.... I've bought pillar pods instead but I had to cut the back open as the VDO gauges are a bit too long

great idea and write up. i gues that gets around the problem (as mentioned above) about some brands of gauges not fitting the pillar pods correctly.

im going to drive around tomorrow and if i like the way the gauges are positioned (i can still ajust the angle and height) then ill pull the pillar cover out and plastic weldand adhere the pods to the pillar cover.
