Has anybody thought of fitting a Nissan V8 from the states to a patrol? these seem to be cheap enough,

Re: USA Nissan V8
Will it physically fit?
Will it pass emissions?
Spares?
there arent enough engine options already with off shelf go fast bits?

A speed camera would have prevented that!
Although an interesting idea, i would suggest against it unless you have VERY deep pockets. As bogged said, there's plenty of other options out there.

Wiki wrote: Nissan VK56DE
The VK56DE is a 5.6 L (5552 cc) version built in Decherd, TN. Bore is 98 mm (3.9 in) and stroke is 92 mm (3.6 in). Output is 317 hp - 320 hp (227 kW) at 4900 rpm with 375 to 390 ft·lbf (509-522 Nm) of torque at 3600 rpm. It has aluminum-alloy block and heads and low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons. The valvetrain is a dual overhead cam (DOHC). It has 4 valves per cylinder with micro-finished camshafts and ductile iron cylinder liners for increased durability.
Motorsport
Nismo also uses the VK56DE for FIA GT1 racing. In race trim, it produces 600 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.[4]
Applications:
2004–present Nissan Armada, 317 hp (236 kW)
2004–present Nissan Titan, 317 hp (236 kW)
2004–present Infiniti QX56, 320 hp (240 kW)
2008–present Nissan Pathfinder, 310 hp (230 kW)
2009 Nissan GT-R GT1, 600 hp (450 kW)
Note: the Titan numbers are for 87 octane fuel. The 320 hp (240 kW) number for the Infiniti was using premium (91 octane) fuel. Using 91 octane fuel equalized the hp number.

Thanks Bog your comments are appreciated!
not helpful, not tech, when you turn on your computer do you ask your self "how many people can I piss off today"
There is only one real petrol engine convention and that is the LS1
(in the large petrol class)
holden v8's (5L) are big, heavy, slow, uneconomical and common.
Advantages of a Nissan V8,
keep the Nissan theme,
something different,
good power
good torque
good economy
still need to find the bell housing pattern?
As for emissions if it was released in the States and complies with US laws then I see no real problem fitting it to a patrol. no different to a LS1

If its the same 5spd behind the TB48, with out measuring. Thats gotta be a positive thing.
Similar to what people do with the VH45. As it almost has the same 4spd auto as the TD42, ZD30, TB42 & TB45.

Would imagine it would fit a patrol if it fits a Navara. What computer would you run Standard or after market. Will the standard computer run just the engine. Or is it intergrated to the traction control, gear box, hill decent and other electrical gobbin.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

I say go for it, Just cause no one has done it doesn't mean its not possible. The only thing i would want to check up on is if you will have issues with security running the factory ECU. Other than that should be able to run the engine standalone no worries.
I would not run aftermarket ECU, as you will have more headaches than its worth, and will require alot of tuning to meet emissions.

Nissan uses the VK56 in the Pathfinder here in the US.
They also built a one-off Xterra with a Titan driveline: http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?s=0&t=3333
There's a private project to swap a VK56 into a Frontier (Navara) documented here:
http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/f11/ ... wap-43001/
Don't know if that's of any help. Personally, I'd go with the VH45 instead.

In search of an MQ (offset) H233b rear, housing only preferred, plus a complete GQ or GU front (4.6 ratio ideal) to be shipped to the US. Cheap! Email/PM if you can help.
