Hi all. Just wondering if someone coud give me a hand to identify the 5 speed and transfer case that was installed in my FJ40
This is a really bad pic of the rear of the case incase someone here recognises it;
I'm told its a 5 speed out of a another series cruiser but I'm not sure how to tell specificly. Are there any stamps or markings I should be looking for?
My next question is did the 84-89 60s come with a transfercase mounted handbrake? Alternativly does anyone know of a suitable disc brake kit for a H55F?
I'm running a 75 FJ40 with the non parking brake drum rear. Just looking for options to get one in.
EDIT: After some more reading it seems that I am able to install 60 series rear drum brake assembly (with parking brake) straight onto my fully floated 40 rear.

I have one its a disc handbrake for your tailshaft and it comes with caliper and cable etc. $350

Can anyone confirm this for me?
Nope, won'y fit, and its a pain in the ass, the housing has four bolts holding the drum backing plate on and yours has 8.
could drop a whole 60 rear diff in????
i think they are a bit wider but could always do the front at the same time
the disc handbrake that bj mentioned sounds like the go IMO
just my 2c
Keep it shiny side up!
Now doing general fab work and painting
trays, trailers, engine swaps on request, some tube work, silo section sliders, rust repairs, ute chops etc
I agree mate, and I think that will be the way to go.
Using the 60 diffs isn't really an option for me and up here to get anything wider than 50mm over standard approved involves alot of painful and expensive testing, and I'm already close to that limit running my 38s.
I might look at a wider diff swap down the track once it's all re-engineered and the scalies aren't going over it with a fine tooth comb.
pity it has to be engineered....
i had 60s under my hilux and got a defect from vic roads for something else rwc and vicroads didnt pick that they were not the original diffs or neither cared

Yeah. Like i said after its all been done I have no doubt that a diff swap would go unnoticed, but for now they are intent on measuring and checking everything, so im playing by the rules as best as I can.

Discs work well till they take a hit and get warped, then theyre useless..
Yeah I realise the issues that come with the disc setups, but this is honestly only to appease registration requirments, as for any situation where I actually need a handbrake I have a hydrolic brake that I bought to go in. I had hoped to 'get away' with just using it, but like I said... they are using a fine tooth comb lol
