V8 Conversion - 253/308, LS1/LS2 Questions???

Post by Dutchy74 »

Hi All,

i am tossing up the idea of exchanging my TB42 over to a V8, i have read some of the threads on here. my main question is: with the on board computer and wiring - where does this mount? and is it exposed to any water/mud.

i do enjoy deep water and mud - just concerned with these components getting wet/mud and the motor conking out - does any one have this issue with the LS1/LS2?

Alternately i was looking at a 253/308 or similar - something that does not have the wiring loom/CPU.

- Open to you varse array of experiences and rrecommendations of what style of V8 would suit my GQ.

Cheers

The LS motors run fine under water and you can mount the computer where ever you like. I would be going the biggest and badest fuel injected motor for sure.

I mounted my ECU inside the dash above the glovebox. I can easily access it for tuning and its out of harms way.

LS1 no probs with the water, when i make a harness for them all relays and fuses go with the ecu, generally up under the dash somewhere.

That being said the LS1 ECU's are sealed and water resistant

dont waist your time and effort, just go the ls1 you'll be a lot happier, i spent heaps of money with turbo's, efi, aftermarket ecu's, intercollers, clutches, gearboxes and heaps more on my rb30, never mad good useable power, then the motor blew and i pissed it all off and dropped in a ls1 and auto :D it was the best thing i ever did, i recon i would have spent as much as the ls1 swap on the turbo set up which made an un reliable car, i never had a drama with the ls1, which is now going to get dumpped in my gu. plus the v8 sounds heaps tuffer

I didn't know THAT!! That's a definite PLUS!! Combined with putting the ECU in the cab, that's a REALLY GOOD couple of things!!

If you do, go the L76/L98 6 litre. WAY MORE low and mid range than a stock LS1.
