Owner of 97 TJ.
While removing front and rear drive shafts for balancing and replacment of Uni's I noticed significant slack in the front Diff - ie when I could rotate the front shaft approc 1/4 turn.
Any advice / suggestions on what is causing this and if it is something to be concerned about would be welcome.

hey mate im having front diff noise problems at the moment and checked my front shaft for slack and moved roughly the same as yours, also checked a mates hilux and it was the same.
so im guessin fairly normal?

Thanks I appreciate the replies - does it make any difference that an ARB locker is fitted.
As an aside I would like to compliment Wooders on 1. the service and support they offer through their business, I recently sent some pics through and asked them to identify a transmission component the response was same day and helpful - no charge as well!

that is one of the worst ways to determine 'play' in any diff.
sounds normal though.

i dont think he was using this method as a rock solid way to determine any sort of play, obviously if anyone was super concerned they would do more then rotate the driveshaft.
