Belt slipping after a power upgrade.

Post by 07luxurious »

I have a 06' Hilux D4D, have had a chip and 3" exhaust fitted, i carry about 300kg of weight constantly so the power upgrade has been very beneficial.
My dilemma is when taking of from a stand still, when the clutch is coming out to engage the gear the belt slips, only for a split second, but still enough to wonder what is causing this? the fan belt has been replaced only recently, and these hilux's have a spring loaded self tightening mechanism fitted stock to the belt system, any ideas from anyone? anything that could be done to relieve the issue?

HD Clutch maybe?

dont use belt grip! that stuff is a pain and puts sticky shit everywhere, fix it properly, how many k's on the clock? the alternator clutch pulley are fairly common failure and could be on its way out, the will make a squeek noise

The problem has nothing to do with the clutch. How sure are you that the replacement belt is 100% the right length? Was it a genuine one? (assuming this problem started when the new belt went on?) If it's not the belt, as said, it will be something else on the belt circuit. Auto tensioner or any of the pulley bearings.

if you read my post im refering to the alternator clutch pulley, not the clutch itself. the alternator pulley has a one way sprag clutch built into it

I was actually referring to the original post where he is clearly referring to the clutch itself. I agreed with you with you that it will be a belt or pulley issue. ;)

the belt was replaced 2 months before the power upgrade and was not heard up until the mod had been done.
