TD42 HEAD BOLTS

Post by Red Rover »

I have just been told that they are not reuseable as they are a stretch bolt. Is this true?

nope, but i have since done more investigating a yes they are a stretch bolt. Pulling the motor down so it will take the turbo so I'll do the full rebuild kit ie pistons liners the whole shebang..... so she don't go shebang with the turbo.

No idea on the kit name. I rang up nearly 12 different places. their prices ranged from 1400 to 2000 for the engine rebuild kit to suit TD42

Had no choice.

if its from repco the kit will b from engines australia. They use acl rings. A lot of engine rebuilders use the engines australia kit and it is good, same with the acl rings as well. It will b fine as i have spoken to a few mates that rebuild them all the time that have said the same.

Where did you find out that they were a stretch bolt? Neither manual makes any mention about the bolts not being re-useable. I'm interested as i'm just about to remove the cyl head on mine to get it overhauled after 550,000kms How many KM's your engine and did any of the pre-combustion chambers or valve seats need replacing? Did they replace all the welsh plugs as well? Also how much for bolts from Nissan?

Thanks
Nick

From memory when workin at a head cylinder workshop, my boss ALWAYS mentioned to the customers that the requirement for the head overhauled was new bolts to go with the kit for warranty reasons as old head bolts were pretty much no good.

Cant really remember that much :|

moor done about 80,000. Head looks perfect. No cracks between the chambers. It was still really clean, however with 500,000 u would probably need a rebuild on the head. It's just that this one looks really good. No crap around the combustion chambers either

No I didn't no about the strecth bolts either, but talking to a number of sources they all say the same thing, get new bolts and at $80 its not too bad considering there are 26 of them.

cheers
