BALENO ENGINE SWAP

Post by OVERKILL ENG »

As requested I am starting a thread on the BAleno 1.3 engine swap that I am currently doing on my Zook.
More info and Pictures to come.

For those that aren't familiar with it they are a 1.3 ltr 16 valve single came engine with multipoint injection.
In simple terms it is a 1.3 GTI bottom end with a 16 valve injected Vitara head on it.

I'm watching with interest, as efi/throttle body conversion to my G13B would be nice.

My old engine had the throttle body injection off a Vitara which was a shiat easy conversiion as it all bolts straight on.
This one has a multi point manifold.

The first hurdle we have come across is that the head has the water outlet in the back of the head which points straight into the firewalll so I am toying with the idea of modifiing the manifold to run the outlet out at thefront of the head.

Okay finally made some good progress this week (5.30am starts )
Motor is back together and in the Zook complete with blower.
Hit a few snags on the way.
Engine fan won't fit water pump so have to run thermo.
Pulleys beeing multi rib are wider and had to make new blower brakets.
Make new throttle cable.
Made right angle hose fitting for the back of the head to run top radiator hose.
Modified Vit extractors to fit.
Got wiring diagram of DRV11T much appreciated. Should have it wired up on the weekend.

Have taken heaps of photo's but keep leaving the camera at work so I will post them up on the weekend.

I run a swift import motor, it has the multi v belts, and also dont fit the sierra fan. we solved this with an alloy boss adaptor made up by our zook club president. ( cause I seen too many thermos die in awkward places ) christover

I agree with you I would prefer to run the engine fan.I will look at changing this . Onother option is to run the Sierra water pump and balancer and change the pulley on the alternator to suit.
SAM.

Another thing we found was that the the pulley for the power steer on the balancer was 2mm bigger in diameter than the one we were using to run the blower so we will have a little more boost now. (1-2 pounds)

yep, me had that thought, as I had to change the cam, but it meant taking off 2 year old swift bits, to replace with 20 year old sierra bits...swift alternator seems to be less trouble, but maybe its just newer condition? christipover

I agree I want to stay with the baleno alternator as it is a 60 amp one as apposed to the Sierra's 25amp one.
The engine looks good in there and there is still 3 inches of room under the bonnet with no bodylift.
I'll make sudr I get some photo's up on the weekend.

Is the blower centrifugal or roots style? Only asking because I am toying with the idea of one of these in a draw thru setup on a 1L. Just wondering how long theb lades will last will fuel pumping through them.

No updates have been to busy.
It is close probably needs 2 days work and it is done.
Cost wise don't know will add it up when it is finished but doing the labour myself makes it quite cheap.
