I've done both sides too. About 5 days apart. Don't spin a wheel and drop it
As for a fix................ weld 'em up. Might help a little, but you'll have 1000 times more fun breaking them

Most CV's I've busted have been caused by one wheel spinning and then getting dropped onto the ground, such as you'd find when you're trying momentum to get through or over things.
By locking both sides you limit the spinning of the wheel as if you're spinning one, you're obviously spinning both and thats not easy in most situations, also you'd be travelling at lower speed due to the lack of momentum needed to get over stuff.
I say weld them 'cause I'm a cheap bas$@rd and drive a butchered Vitara
Unless of course you are rich and can afford air lockers
Search the forum for pro's and con's as there is a hundred different opinions on locking styles
