Which UHF antenna?
Hi, Im thinking of putting a UH088 into my car.
What would be a good choice of antenna for 4wding
Should I get a ground-independent one?
Low gain or high gain?
Cheers
Eric

Ground independant 4.5db is a good all round choice.

Replaced a UH011 with a UH089 radio and still use the Mobile 1 6DB ground independent fibreglass wip aerial. Works OK. My understanding is low gain for hilly terrain and high gain for flat country.

A tip if anyone decides to buy an Electrophone AE409L 6/9Db stainless whip antennae. The whip sections have a habit of fatigueing off immediately above the mount. Get a piece of fuel hose, about 2 inches long, and slide it down over the larger part of the base where the whip goes in, and the grub screw is, leaving about 1 inch up around the whip itself. Now fill the hose around whip with silicon sealer. This gives a much larger area of support, and the whip wont break off.

							Mud makes excellent toothpaste.

thanks for the tip on the AE406/9 Mine never actually broke at the base, but has snapped about 3 times in the middle bit. I think these aerials are quite sensitive to where they are mounted. After i moved it from the bullbar to the roof, i have had no more trouble. Good aerial that.

Don't buy the 6ft one, they are real easy to break if not cautious.
I have a gme 4ft and its great, as long as the bullbar mount is strong they will last
