Okay, lets jump directly to topic: I have "always" been having the impression that Nissan Patrol axles are rigid stuff. Im not familiar with Patrols at all, but Ive laways wanted to own one. But lets dig *deep* into this, how about those who know post up specifications of the axles on every kind bodystyle Patrol - I know theres atleast five of them, from 1960s to now ? Id like to set it up something like this, with the following specs on each Patrol "bodychange/style"..

The rear axle you are talking about is a H260. I was in the MQs and some GQs (Y60) and some GUs (Y61), mainly only the tray backs. These numbers confuses me , do you have a picture of the Patrol with this axle, and maybe some more specs on those "H260" axles ? All I know is the are farken HUGE and I think they have a flat bottom on the diff housing, not rounded like the H233.

Some time ago we tried to work out the reason and there appeared to be none, probably just a surplus of them, or a shortage of the H233 during the period, 2000 - 2002 or there abouts, haven't really looked at any of the updates to see any have them fitted.
Someone who keeps a closer eye on them may know.
The H260 is basically in the league of a Dana 80 in size, ring gear and axle diam, spline is different.
The GU front H233 has significantly larger and stronger CV's, a H233 is a pretty strong axle to start with and the GU's are pretty tuff. I haven't heard of many breaking though I am sure someone has, nothing is bullet proof if you try hard enough.
I am not aware of the any H260 in the MQ's however the utes probably had them.
The ARB locker application chart will be able to tell you specifically which diffs are in which model and it is fairly accurate with all the date on ring gear and axle diam.

The reason the Dana axels are used, is the Nissan did not come with the h260 in the USA and the Dana is strong cheap and plentiful with heaps of upgrades available.
I was looking to swap in a h260 as an up grade to my dana44. But the lack of diff mounted hand break put me off.

I run open knuckle dana44 (stock) and i prefer them cuz they are strong and give my a very small turning circle esp compared to landcruser and patrol
