The Patrol Axle Tech Thread !
Hello,
Okay, lets jump directly to topic: I have "always" been having the impression that Nissan Patrol axles are rigid stuff. Im not familiar with Patrols at all, but Ive laways wanted to own one. But lets dig *deep* into this, how about those who know post up specifications of the axles on every kind bodystyle Patrol - I know theres atleast five of them, from 1960s to now ? Id like to set it up something like this, with the following specs on each Patrol "bodychange/style"..

The rear axle you are talking about is a H260. I was in the MQs and some GQs (Y60) and some GUs (Y61), mainly only the tray backs. Do a search on H260 for all the info you never wanted to know.TLCOR wrote:I read somewhere that the axles on a Patrol similar as the one underneath, suppose to have a crazy 11" R&P, and 37 spline rearaxles ! Is this just a myth or something ?

Diff
H260 diff was also found in some g60 patrols (1960's and 70's model)

These numbers confuses me , do you have a picture of the Patrol with this axle, and maybe some more specs on those "H260" axles ? Are they under the Patrols that I posted picture of ?RoldIT wrote:The rear axle you are talking about is a H260. I was in the MQs and some GQs (Y60) and some GUs (Y61), mainly only the tray backs. You'll have to wait for someone more educated than me to chyme in with this info. I know the basics but detailed specs I'm not so sure on.TLCOR wrote:These numbers confuses me , do you have a picture of the Patrol with this axle, and maybe some more specs on those "H260" axles ? All I know is the are farken HUGE and I think they have a flat bottom on the diff housing, not rounded like the H233.
KRiS
Only some, mostly the ute/tray back version of those (GQ/Y60). I think they were more common in the MQs (the previous picture you posted).TLCOR wrote:Okay, and these H260-axles are bolted under these Patrols, right ?RoldIT wrote:All I know is the are farken HUGE and I think they have a flat bottom on the diff housing, not rounded like the H233.

Okay, but Im a little confused here. Hm, this site http://www.autocentrum.pl/nissanclub/modele/patrol.html claims these Patrols are "MQs" or 160s:
And, these are "GQs" or Y60s:

Okay, thanks for clearing up again ! I saw this http://www.4x4offroads.com/49-inch-modi ... chevy.html buildup, and noticed they are using Dana-axles, why do they bother if the Nissanstuff is so strong ? Does it have a H260 rearaxle ?
Bling? Bling? Cling.
Hehe, so you have one of those H260-rearends ? Helding up ? Actually, I checked out a couple of Y60s today - and both had the round-ish rearaxle, not the H260 ?Big Red Toy wrote:woot!

The rear diffs are good, but the front's are a bit small when bigger rubber & motor's are entered into it

TLCOR,
Leaf sprung GQ's had the H260.
In the GU it was hit and miss, I have never seen one in a 2.8 but they can be found on some 3.0TDI, 4.2TD and 4.8's.
Some time ago we tried to work out the reason and there appeared to be none, probably just a surplus of them, or a shortage of the H233 during the period, 2000 - 2002 or there abouts, haven't really looked at any of the updates to see any have them fitted.
Someone who keeps a closer eye on them may know.
The H260 is basically in the league of a Dana 80 in size, ring gear and axle diam, spline is different.
The GU front H233 has significantly larger and stronger CV's, a H233 is a pretty strong axle to start with and the GU's are pretty tuff. I haven't heard of many breaking though I am sure someone has, nothing is bullet proof if you try hard enough.
I am not aware of the any H260 in the MQ's however the utes probably had them.
The ARB locker application chart will be able to tell you specifically which diffs are in which model and it is fairly accurate with all the date on ring gear and axle diam.
BTW my GU has a H260 and no you can't have it.

The h260 are about 300mm in diameter if you measure the pumpkin the h233 is about 250mm.TLCOR wrote:Thank you very much ! Can we get some weights on these beasts too ?
The reason the Dana axels are used, is the Nissan did not come with the h260 in the USA and the Dana is strong cheap and plentiful with heaps of upgrades available.
I was looking to swap in a h260 as an up grade to my dana44. But the lack of diff mounted hand break put me off.
Also what part of Norway are you from.
Eric Knutsen
I think the h260 would the best axel to swap in for most people here in OZ that is.

Was those numbers regarding 160-axles - C200 and H233 or H260 ? One more thing, how do these C200s and H233B frontaxles compare to Toyota Hilux frontaxles ?
not 100% sure of the type but i think h230
i would take a nissan h230 over any stock toyota slowlux or cruser axle

Yeah, those stupid birfields keeps on breaking. What kind of joint do they use in the Patrol axles ? U-joints ? Birfields ? Rzeppas ? etc..scout392 wrote:i would take a nissan h230 over any stock toyota slowlux or cruser axleTLCOR wrote:Ha, very cool ! Are you in Australia now ?

I run open knuckle dana44 (stock) and i prefer them cuz they are strong and give my a very small turning circle esp compared to landcruser and patrol
