spring conversion
spring conversion
Rocky road sell conversion kits for YJ Wrangler springs to go into zook's, has anyone here done anything like this? Any idea if it's a good swap?
I believe the YJ spring conversion is effectively running a "chassis extension" type setup with some longer leaf springs in the front in order to achieve more travel in the front end.
I'm not running YJ springs, but i am running Old Man Emu Rear springs at the front with an extended chassis and i love it.
Perhaps this goes part of the way towards answering your question?
Cheers,

the YJ springs are the same as hilux fronts.
are you wanting to run their standard kit or shackle reversal?
I've got some laser cut bits of steel to the mod in shackle reversal. but I'm going to hold out until the end of the year to do it.
in my opinion it's a great mod.
I'll post some pics of what sort of flex you can get from it (courtesy of geoff).

The biggest problem I can see with the YJs is the scarcity of the springs ..
(second hand ones are going for stupid prices) I have a set of wagoneer springs that I want to try out.. apparently they flex as well as the YJ's but do not suffer from anywhere near the wrap issues ..

Damn I wish I'd known that earlier, I'd abandoned this idea due to the scarcity of the springs here. The mod also apparently slightly reduces approach angle.
Do the luxy springs have the same spring rates as well, or are they just the same physical size?

not sure about spring rates mate. but you could play with the pack to get it how you want it. physically they are the same size or very fawkin close.
the approach angle from the CSC(or sumo) s/r yj kit doesn't reduce the approach angle, as you no longer have a shackle hangle down at the front.

I have CJ7 jeep springs in the rear, ome +2 inch sierra rears in the front, both required the mounts to be moved. Flex is pretty good. 6.129 transfer case plus 5.89 diff gears gives it plenty of spring wrap/ axle tramp under load though.
I wouldn't buy anything else from rocky road though....

Trail Tough have the most popular YJ conversion kit in the US

You can request no front drop shackle if you want to keep it legal.

asian auto parts of arizona have a kit that most people in the states are fabbing up themselves.
it's the shackle reversal kit. the trail tough kit isn't s/r.

seen a zook with a shackle reversal kit here in canberra looks good standing there but id say the llllong front mount will get caught way before a standard shackle would, and thediff angle was standard i thinks he best get shares in the uni joint factory angles were to extreme, also even with drive shaft spacers he has experienced the shaft slipping out while going over logs & or rocks !
if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION
