Rear axle seal on a 92 GQ Patrol.
Is it a difficult job for a guy with minimal mechanical skills ?

Well, the seal is out I will take it to Ripco tomorrow and get a new one (and a new O-ring aswell) and pop it all back together.
Wasn't as big a job as I was expecting Wheel off, brake caliper off, disk off, undo 8 nuts, slide out axle then pop the seal out
Bruce - the bearings were replaced not too long ago, so they are ok

Don't forget there is two seals on the rear axles!! An inner and outer seal. The inner one is a piece of piss to replace, but the outer one will require you to remove the bearing. Removing the bearings will usually require a pretty heavy duty press, in the order of 30 tonne.
What can happen on the outer seal is that the seal lip can wear a groove on the shaft, which can lead to a leak. A new seal won't necessarily help. You can try installing the seal in a slightly different position or install a speedi sleeve over the shaft, which gives you a new surface.
