Wheel bearing lock washer question

Post by grassyknoll »

Hey guys, just doing the wheels bearing on the GQ with the lock nut upgrade (round ones). Just wondering if I keep the lock washer that goes up against the outer bearing, not the one between the old lock nuts (hex ones).

Cheers.

I'm certain I left mine on there when I did the conversion, but it's not actually a lock washer perse, it just engages with the shaft to stop it rotating from memory.

Hope that helps.

I think the thin lock washer between the 2 original lock nuts is there to stop the second nut (while torquing it up) from causing the 1st nut to tighten more, otherwise you would increase the preload on the bearings.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd leave it there too.

cheers, sudso
