Turbo Diesel.. cat convertor.. can i get rid of it?

Ok i just got a 3" mandrel bent exhaust put on my new triton. its from the cat back.. (the cat is bolted directly to the back of the turbo)

now it does go better but it makes no noise watsoever! it has a pissy lil straight thur muffler on it and its still quiet as!

so my question is, wil it hurt to get rid of the cat...

and dont give me all the crap about emmisons stuff as i dont wanna hear about it..

Hey, i didnt think diesels had cat conv.

Just get rid of it and get a straight through resonator/muffler for it.

You've got a great engine which performs well.

You want to spend more money for a fractional change in power, which will make a minor difference to your driving experience, and a negligible difference to your fuel economy.

At the expense of masses more toxins (carbon monoxide and unburnt hydrocarbons) released into the atmosphere and the risk of hefty fines should some authority notice.

Same.. particle filters are the rage with the new diesels in europe.. didn't think diesels had enough gas emissions to justify one.

well the new common rail diesels have a cat.. its prolly more of a particall filter.. when u look up the guts of it.. it look jsut like a cat...

You will find that the cat is actually also the dump pipe.

i asked cos i didnt know if you COULD get rid of it! but as GuT30 said its part of the dump pipe.. so that answeers my question..

but i would probably just leave it in as there wont be too much gain from removing it

The answer is "Yes" - it will hurt the environment.

If you wanted a different answer you should have been more specific with your question.

Well, there ya go. I'd given you too much credit.

Lack of noise from an exhaust generally leads people to conclude that the exhaust is too restrictive, and must therefore be strangling the engine.

The next step in the thought process is typically to conclude that removing the restriction will allow the engine to breathe better, and thereby allow the engine to perform better.

This is the thought process I believed you were following, and your desire to remove the cat was fuelled by a desire for more performance.

However, you have just acknowledged that all you are interested in is creating more noise. Yep, I'm the idiot here.
