Hey all,
When changing from an auto behind a 1FZFE to a manual, does the crossmember and tailshafts need to be changed? or are they the same.
Thanks
Steve

Re: 80 series man vs auto
Not 100% on 80's gear, but I do know that when doing a 60 series auto to manual conversion, the tailshafts and crossmembers from the manual are needed. I'd imagine it'd be the same for the 80.killalux wrote:Hey all,

Ok so would I be correct in saying that if I use the auto crossmember in the standard position(auto chassis) that the manual gearbox will be further forward? I am changing auto to manual.Red Rover wrote:different tailshafts. Manual shafts are longer.
different mounting position for the cross member.
Cross member is the same shape
Crossmember has to move backwards.
This would be great, As It would push my V8 further away from the firewall.
Thanks

Steve, the crossmember of a manual bolts up snug behind the chassis mounts for the front lower suspension arms. The auto crossmember is roughly 100mm further back on the chassis. The crossmembers are not exactly thesame due to chassis widths etc....the auto itself is 100mm longer, so putting a manual in there will mean it is 100mm short of normal position....might be ok if a 100mm width adapter is used for the v8 bellhousing.....T700 would probably fit in there easier, or buy a manual set of shafts and crossmember. Its not impossible to move your crossmember forward, you need to cut off the mounts and maybe tap some holes...
