pajero engine swaps and t/case info

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
I have been searching the site and think I have it sorted but want to check a few things .

Firstly I do not have a pajero but looking at repowering an offroader with a mitsi engine . So a gearbox that had a 2.5 diesel (mid 80's) will take a 2.6 petrol or a 2.0 petrol like a 4g63 ( 2.0 dohc turbo ) .

Also if I was lucky enough to find a pto they bolt to the t/case . Anyone have any pic's or info on this ? If I got low t/case gears ( looks like 2.85's are about ) would this mess with the pto ?

Lastly these mostly have 4.875 diff ratios but some could have 5.29's .

I couldn't guarantee it. I'm fairly certain the 2.6 manual and 2.5 would be interchangeable, but:
  • the 4G63 is a different engine series

2.0 Astron manual gearboxes have different bolt pattern to the 2.6 Astron manual.

Bitsamissin is the expert, but I believe the 2.85s won't work with factory PTOs.
