How hard is it to change the seal behind the swivel hub?
Mine is leaking so where do i get some from (eg Repco,EBAY etc)?

pretty easy, best to get a whole swivel hub kit and do the axle seals etc while your in there.

its not too hard just time consuming, when u do it just lay it out in the order you pulled it apart so u dont get stuck when putting it all together again, just make sure you get the wheel bearing nut set right.

can get seal from most auto parts stores or from a dealer, sounds like its the INNER AXLE SEAL coast about $5 to $10

as said, not a bad job, take the time to grease the CV, and wheel bearings etc.

picking my GQ up tonight just got all the seals on r/h/s done.
the kit came all in one and ive got l/h/s aswell for when that starts to leak.
cost me all up $450 labour n parts.
dont know if thats cheap or not but dont have time to do myself.

whats the go with oil stabilisers (sp)

I was told they can help with small leaks and stuff I was hoping this would be enough to stop a minor leak in the hubs?

Could be your swivel housing bearings.This was the case for me,while dismantling the hub to do the swivel seal I noticed they were stuffed.
Put new bearings in and re-assembled (checking condition of the old seals first),problem fixed.

Checked for ware tonight L/H/S has movement but its the R/H/S that is leaking.
The Mav has also done 380000 kms

they come in the kit, very good kit contains everything from swivel hub seals, bearings, cups to wheel bearing seal. Terrain Tamer brand. You can also get wheel bearing kits if you find these are f**ked. You should clean up wheel bearings, check they're condition and repack or replace whilst you've got it apart.

Be warned - sometimes you need to press the swivel hub bearings off the king pin shafts.

Yep, Did this yesterday. took quite a bit of pressure before they shifted with a loud bang in the press.

Spend the time to shim them correctly on install too.... or you will get the dreaded patrol wheel shimmy.

we only use factory parts for swivel rebiulds, and we use $31 a tube grease for cv's [one tube per side]

Aftermarket parts just dont last as long, seals dont quite fit the same, tapers slightly different, etc etc.

We thread lock the king pin nuts, hub bolts etc as well on re assembly.
