Re: HDJ100 Live Axle Conversion - Possible?

I had a look under my 100series and 80 series chassis on the weekend and i think its possible. the chassis is actually very different at the front, which means just swapping a 105 diff in is not an option. Will mean fabbing up full suspension from a bare housing, but as you said there are plenty of ...

Re: HDJ100 Live Axle Conversion - Possible?

I did find that article. Looks interesting, but he wasn't willing to use a 105 or 7x diff - wanted something bigger and stronger. The article also talks about track width, but I;m not sure that is correct. Track width is a function of the wheel & tyre, not just the hub width I thought. I thought the ...

HDJ100 Live Axle Conversion - Possible?

I see plenty of people dropping 1HD-FTE engines into 105's, but I see no-one dropping a live axle under a HDJ100. Is this conversion possible? I see it often enough in Hilux's. I figure someone must have done it. The 105 chassis does have a rise in it at the front - I suspect this may be a reason ...

Diesel ECU's - Aftermarket Alternatives

I'm still toying with the idea of a 1HD-FTE into my 105. But I don't want the loom hassles. Or the limited power from a 7x version. Seems like the best solution is an aftermarket ECU. Plenty out there for Petrols. Does anyone know of any versions for diesels? I can find plenty of "piggyback ...

Winch - which way is "in"?

Assuming it's mounted feet "down" and motor to the LEFT (looking at the winch) Why does it matter - if yours is the wrong way round - your brake will be in reverse. And I'm not sure if there is any way to tell if it's "right" except by feelign the drum and seeing if it gets hot. No labels on my ...

It'll vary on brand / model / quality.

The proper original Plasma - Puget Sound stuff is built for marine towing - plenty of UV there.

Winch warning - close call, near fire.

Short Version: If you have the older (common) 2 solenoid type winch control - I reckon you are at pretty high risk of a fire. The field windings in that design are energised at all times, just waiting for an earth - any earth. It could be an accident that cuts a wire. In my case it was a stud in the ...

I've got a pair of Rallye 4000's on the car with HID's in them. Hella doesn't seal their lights. Re: Bastard 1HZ alternator belt!

Mines easy

There is a locknut on the adjuster - faces forward, forget which part it's on. Loosen that. I tdoesn't look like a locknut - it is though.
Then adjust away
No need to loosen anything else.
I've also replaced it twice - and never had to pull anything else out.

Heim's to Pins possible on Bilstein 7100's

The Bilstein 7100's come with Heim joints stock. My cruiser wants Pins for most mounts. I can run adapters, but need another 2-3" of length to do so - meaning bump stop extensions. That's unacceptable to me. I like stuffing wheels. Has anyone managed to swap the heim joints to pins? I've heard it's ...

Are you going to stay with 4" lift for towing?

I would have thought 2" HD would be more stable and appropriate?
Springs are cheap.
Will make your range of shocks easier to buy, larger range in 2" lift.
