Chassis straightening

I had a bit of a bingle (head on) and on getting the vehicle home and speaking to friends they think the chassis may be bent a little. There are no obvious signs of damage to the chassis but by doing a measurement from the centre of the front hubs to the centre of the rear wheels on both sides there ...

Re: Trouble starting Hilux

Yeah mate, pumping the pedal won't do much.

Probably best to grab a cheap multimeter from Supercheap or something and do some simple tests.

Check the battery without cranking. 12.4 volts or higher. Check the battery while cranking. Should be about 10 volts or so, depending on the draw. Inspect ...

I tend to agree.

Has a brake line been re-routed or has a heat shield been removed anywhere?
Have you jacked up the front end and spun each wheel to see if the pads are dragging?

Putting up my guess on this one.

Fluid would not cause brake lockup to occur.

My first guess would to be look at the brake booster. Maybe it is getting excessive vacuum somehow?

After the brakes lock up, do they just return to normal straight away afterwords?

Brakes --- this is weird ?

Just had my brakes done. ( 85` Hilux )

Had front discs machined, new pads, brake lines.
Rear - new drums, brake lines, etc.

The problem --- When I drive the 4by everything works fine, but after about an hour of driving ( thats the weird bit -- why after an hour or so ? ), all I have to do is ...

By far the easiest way I've ever seen to remove rust from any metal object is to put it in a tub full of molasses.
The molasses eats the rust in a couple of days and then you just rinse off with water (or thinners) and dry then paint or oil/grease.

Thats interesting - any clue where i could get ...

Suspension wise and accessories I'm ok, but what are they like after 100,000k's with weekend off roading ?

Have you inspected your drag link knuckle arm or J arm? If bent a little bit, the front wheels will scrub if it's not the chassis.

If it was the chassis, I would be thinking the rear tyres would scrub, as you would be going down the road sideways, straight.

Its not IFS. Its an 85 Hilux -- Leafs

After having 2 wheel alignments, I relised ( I actually forgot ) that you cant align the front wheels on that model Hilux, but you can change the camber.

Going by the thoughts given, it looks like it might be the chassy.
