Re: Shorty :D

SWB legally wont carry 5 people, the rear seats are split 50/50 and only have 2 seatbelts, making it a 4 seater, but as you say you rarely carry 5 people then all you have to do is say "no"... SWBs definately are cool looking and very capable offroad, I say go for it!! I myself will be ...

Re: Water.. How deep????

As long as the engine can breathe you'll be fine, just make sure your windows are up and your diff breathers are either plugged or extended so they don't suck water in.

NH Paj gearbox is dead, What to do 'bout it.

So my 5spd manual has died and I'm looking for opinions on the best way to repair/replace/wreck. Paj is an 92 NH with a 6g72.

I have called a few wreckers and almost no one has any boxes to replace this one. I got one price of $1250 which is a LOT for an un-reco'd unit.

Questions:
1. Would it be ...

Nice work. They are some insane beadlocked tyres.

Although I must say I don't really see the point in chopping it when you could just get a J-Top and weld it up.

I have gone without one of these since my body lift. It makes the cabin a little noisier so I might give these things a try too.

Coulnd't be too hard to pick up from a wrecker though eh?

Welding diffs is illegal for good reason. Unless it's a vehicle that you tow to events and only drive on anything but concrete or a sealed road then go ahead. But if you weld the diff and drive on the road you don't have any slippage so when you go round corners the inside wheel wan't to travel as ...

You should check your foot also. It may have significant lead deposits. This is often just a byproduct of inserting a P where the L used to be. :)

I had a problem with my startermotor. Sometimes it would start, sometimes not. Ended up taking it to the mechanics, he pulled it off and it was full of mud.

Are the electrics fine, ie can you hear the solenoid engage when you turn the key?

Yeah All I can hear is a click and no start. That's why ...

I wouldn't bother trying to tweak and rebuild the current engine, it'll end up costing a bucket load more than just swapping in a fresh 3.5 or holden 3.8.

Mechz, your could also be the idle stepper motor - also common fault. Leads to poor or non idle.

Why these fail is that are pretty delicate and the crankcase breather going into the intake just before it so it gets full of oil vapour from the crankcase leading to fouling.

I tested the resistance ...

Funny you should bring this topic up, I'm having the same ShortyIQ problem. I keep mine going by locking the choke out so it idles at about 1000.

With mine, it runs fine from cold then if you stop it and restart the engine it will cough and splutter then stall.

And it's decided to blow aircon ...

If you use the towbar just drill a hole in the middle for one of those eye bolts. It really won't affect anything. I just used a new piece of plate because I bent my towbar from previous recovery attempts and don't really use it.

If you have manual hubs I don't think you'll have a problem because they won't have any resistance against them, hence they won't bind up.
