Are the auto and manual gearboxes interchangable on these engines?

I.e can you take the manual off and put the auto on?

Are there any issues swapping a 2LT-E and putting a 2LT in on an auto?

I have heard the 2LT will have issues with the auto due to no crank angle sensor.

Thoughts? experience?

I know someone who has a 2LTE that is dying (it is auto) and can get a cheap 2LT to replace it.

VR 3.8 conversion into Surf

This may or may not be the place to ask this. I have a VR series 2 Auto motor with a VN T700 gearbox. I was going to just buy a VN or VP computer / loom but have been told the VR auto motors have a crank angle sensor electronics plug on them that the VNs and VPs didn't have and are computer ...

No a full recon on the pump (depending on who you ask)
can be anywhere from $2k = $4.5k

so that price is just the seals.

Give them a call anyway and ask. They are fairly helpfull and it didn't take them long either.

Basically any Diesel place would be able to help you

Mate, that was just for the seals. The R & R is remove and re-fit.

I imagine the cost would about halve if you already have the pump out of the car.

I had mine done about 2 months ago. Including R&R it was $825 to have the seals done.

That was done at Australian Diesel Company down at Kingston.

Hope that helps

A 98 surf is worth mid to late 20's I would say he has looked at the complience plate not the build date.

go to www.toyotasurf.asn.au/forum

speak to JR and he will send a set of 10 for $100 inc delivery

I don't know Slosh,

I have your outcast 32" BFG A/Ts and they work a treat ( and look good on the surf as well) although I had to do a 2" suspension and body lift to fit them in without any scrubbing. The next set will definately be 33" as the 32" s look a little small now

Mate, PM Surfin Alec. He has done it on his LN130 surf (same as 4runner)
I think also HG has done it now as well or is about to.

Have a look over on www.toyotasurf.asn.au/forum and look at the search function. Alec has put a tech article up on how he has done it, how much etc.

The 3L head is interchangable with the 2L motor. In some cases the water jacket needs to be cut out but they are a good replacement head for a 2L, 2LT or 2LT-E

afaik it is not interchangable with the 5L (3litre)
but could be wrong

Mate,

As I said, I cannot verify if this is true, I was told it by an engine conversion shop.

Just throwing it out there as something to check.
