Re: Speed versus RPM in a GU TD42Ti

On pretty standard tyres (265/75/16) in 5th at 100km/h the rev counter reads approx 2100-2200.

Feels about perfect for cruising.

STD Wheel Patrol GU

Ok, so just bought a 2003 GUIII DX wagon - the one with no flares.

It has a pretty tired looking alloy bull bar that I want to replace with a steel winch bar. There is a Nissan bar to fit the non-flared partol (so it doesn't stick out at either side) which nissan ask $1500 for. I think I might ...

Re: 2001 4.8L - was expecting more grunt

Yeah more or less (give or take 20K for 4.8, 19K for 4.5). The 4.8 has 190K vs 260K on the 4.5.

I'm upgrading from a $5K SWB Pajero so its a big step up in cash for me so just want to get it right - so appreciate your help!

Re: 2001 4.8L - was expecting more grunt

Maybe sounds like a stupid question, but given the choice of a 2001 4.8L Manual and a 2001 4.5L Manual - both on dual fuel - similar mileage, which would you go for? Both as thirsty as the other? Both as reliable?

Re: 2001 4.8L - was expecting more grunt

Early ones came with manuals. This is a 2001.

Didn't seem to different on gas or petrol. Just a slight glitch in the power as switched between them.

Engine seems to run real smooth.

2001 4.8L - was expecting more grunt

Just test drove a 2001 4.8 manual with 190K on the clock. All seemed fine but have to say I was expecting a bit more low down grunt - my SWB 3.0L Pajero was much more sprightly on 33s.
Anyway, got back and noticed it was pissing fluid out the bottom - seemed to be coolant - checked under the hood ...

lifted bush tourer: Diesel or Petrol/Gas ?

Just sold my SWB Pajero wanting something bigger and better. Originally looking at 4.2L Diesel Patrol GU, but there ain't many around. Now I'm looking for 4.2 diesel Landcruiser, but seems might be more Petrol/Gas examples around?

Trying to get something around 1999-2000, around 200K on clock. To ...

I reckon from what you (both) say, a 4.2L diesel is the one to look out for.

Thanks again.

Which Patrol?

I've just sold my Mitsu Pajero SWB (on 33" MTs) in order to get myself a LWB Patrol.

I was looking at the 2.8L Diesel online, there are loads of them but then got warned off them by a mechanic. He said go for the 3.0 or 4.2, or 4.5 Petrol on gas.
I'd prefer a diesel though.

Is he correct? What ...

Hot/Warm Start problem

My '91 3.0 petrol Pajero is having starting issues.

Just had the starter motor and battery replaced so it can't be those. Intermittent problem but have realised its when the car is warmed up, the car won't start when I turn the key. All the lights come on as usual and there's a nice big "click ...

Same engine, broader question.

Mine has around 260,000 on the clock and is my daily drive (60kms/day). Seems to run fine, though its losing oil (oil leak onto the sump guard) but can't find from where without taking the whole thing out. But as you say - oil is cheap.

I don't have a lot of car ...

Squeeky enging when cold

Have had my 91 Paj in to sort this out but no success.
Belt squeels like hell till I put some lub on the ribs - all the pulleys look straight but it seems to be hard against the inside of one and towards the ouside of another. Squeeling stops once the engine heats up thoroughly (15mins driving).
Any ...

Brilliant! Perfectly logical answer - well done!

So shouldn't be any problem (legally) with both sets wired up.

Redundant 'normal level' tail lights

Sorry if this is a well answered question - haven't found any reference to it: Why are 4wds fitted with low level bumber mounted tail lights leaving the normal level tail lights pretty much redundant? Is it legal to have both sets working, and if so, is it very easy to wire up?
