Re: TOYOTA V8 SWAP INTO A 80 SERIES

A 1UZ will be a waste of time. you will drop .5L and a heap of torque over a 1FZ. In stock trim a 1FZ is significantly stronger than a 1UZ. (I have significant experience with both in NA and FI forms) If you are only looking at an N/A 1 or 2 UZ you will spend less porting and cams for the existing 1...

Re: TOYOTA V8 SWAP INTO A 80 SERIES

If you are after more HP, have you considered turbocharging a 1FZ powered truck?

The 80 series 1FZ is particularly strong once you add a Cometic head gasket and a set of head studs, the motor is capable of delivering 400+ hp reliably with a Garrett GT35-40 and 15 or so PSI.

Anyway - just an idea.

Re: has anyone ever fitted a turbo to a petrol 80 series?

Well i've just purchased a second hand Sprintex Supercharger to suit the 4.5L (about $550 including postage) i'm not sure how old it is, i should receive it early next week. Not sure if i want to put it on my 75ute, or in our 105 wagon...Depending on how much more cash/parts i need to fit it, it co...

Re: has anyone ever fitted a turbo to a petrol 80 series?

Boy oh boy - $3000 for the exhaust. That's where the workshop makes it's money.

Speak to Sprintex regarding the exhaust system - A good heat shield and some lagging on the pipes should do the trick.

If you assumed $500 for the heat shielding, that would put the price at $6k which is pretty good.

Re: has anyone ever fitted a turbo to a petrol 80 series?

Wow - 4.5k to fit that kit is a total rip. You don't need ceramic coating - you can use heat wrap and this - http://www.aclperformance.com.au/prod_heatshield.htm , and you certainly don't need a 3 inch exhaust system. Even if you include 1.5k in that price for the exhaust work, $3k to fit a kit that...

Probably between 1k and 2k.

Always over estimate so you have some contingency if something pops up.

Have a look on the sprintex site for a dealer near you and then ask that dealer for a quote to fit the kit if you suppy it.

Hmmm. Unfortunately there's no manifold! It's really just a collection of chinese crap unfortunately. (you had me excited for a moment there) There are 2 things you absolutely cannot skimp on if doing a turbo conversion. #1 Buy a decent turbo. Never ever buy a no-name ebay special turbo. #2 Buy a de...

Re: has anyone ever fitted a turbo to a petrol 80 series?

Just had a bit of a look at the sprintex kit http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_info.php?products_id=7652 That is dirt cheap , and sprintex are pro. Sprintex reckon it's 8-9 hours to fit. If you want a bit of additional go and can line up someone near you to fit it (pref a sprintex dealer) then it'...

Re: has anyone ever fitted a turbo to a petrol 80 series?

Yeah - $7k drive in drive out is probably a bit low - but it will depend on the cost of the kit obviously. As a comparison, the ASE turbo kit for the TB48 is $6800, although it is a very comprehensive kit and includes a front mount cooler. ASE are also going to release a 1FZ kit , but it will be a b...

Re: has anyone ever fitted a turbo to a petrol 80 series?

Std head bolts are a torque to yield fastener and have a maximum clamping force dictated by the material. ARP studs are a much stronger material and can be torqued to a significantly higher torque (not a torque to yield fastener - the specified torque is approx 75% of the fastener yield strength) - ...

Put a build thread up on PF too mate - you'll get lots of help. One thing - before you fire it up, change the standard torque-to-yield head bolts with ARP supra 2jz gte head studs. You can get them from VPW, Rocket etc etc. Vastly improves the integrity of the cyl head seal. Only $250 or so and abso...

Re: has anyone ever fitted a turbo to a petrol 80 series?

When you begin running it, make sure it is tuned on a dyno with a knock sensor. As long as you keep the boost down to under 10psi you should be okay on the gas. Anything over that and you will need to retard the spark (usually by 1 degree per pound is a good rule of thumb. If you want to run it on p...

Turbocharging or supercharging high KM engines can have variable results - all depends on how it has been maintained over it's life.

As with any performance upgrade, starting with a fresh base is good practice.

Hi mate - Yes, a turboed 4.5 will make plety of grunt. At that sort of mileage however, at minimum a re-ring is order. The 2 weak points in the 1FZ are the head gasket and torque to yield head bolts - and to cover this, Cometic now do a multilayer steel item, and Supra 2JZ head studs from ARP are a ...

EFI VP eh? Magic. The VP runs a Delco ECU, so you have two options regarding changing the injection and ignition maps to suit forced induction. 1. The delco can be fully re-programmed by a workshop using Kalmaker software. (not all workshops have this-let me know where you are located-that'll narrow...
