It crapped the clutch today. 984km old. Apparently the pressure plate "died". No apologies or nothing from ford. Just a bring it back and we'll fix it. :bad-words: Let alone the cruise control that is the most violent thing at 110kph I have ever witnessed! Another problem yet to be "understood ...

Has anyone attempted to gain a few extra kw out of these engines? 86kw and 290nm is killing me! There has to be a few hidden horses? The Ute is just a run around for me, little to no load but I need site access within mines etc. Just a work vehicle, the Patrol is still the dedicated tourer. What ...

Tailshaft, front and rear there should be 3 on each, 2 uni's and the slip yoke. That's about all mine has. None of the arms have any etc like the GQ does.

Nah, you'll be right Bucky. My 33's fit stock no worries. YOu can fit 35's with a 2" lift and light scrubbing. I can't imagine the ute having less room around the rear.

Interior Lights / Console.

Hi all, I have an overhead console that I want to adapt a neat interior light to. I would prefer one with the twin (driver and passenger) toggle type lights with individual switches. I just rang ford to see what the one out of my BA Falcon was worth ($73) that's an ideal unit but a bit pricey. Any ...

Sounds about right for 35's wouldn't you say?

I have only owned a 4.5L patrol, and earlier diesels.

Are the 4.5's better or worse on fuel then the earlier 4.2 carb/efi model GQ's?

Expect 20-25L per hundred, manual, little more for auto. That's driven sensibly.

STT's are a nice tyre, though wear is average. You can rely on them, I have done some terrible roads with a very well loaded up GU. We traveled 3000km last week offroad and not one puncture. They have done close to 10,000km on my GU now and I would say they are 60-70% tread left. Very reasonable ...

Why do you want to change it? Pinging? Mine does a little at highway km's on hills, but I don't even put the foot to the floor as it doesn't seem to make any difference to speed, half to three quarter throttle seems to work best and no pinging..

I'm no mechanic either, but I have a 99 model GU 4.5 petrol and it was fitted with extractors and 2.5 inch exhaust. I didn't have any problems from fitment of a bigger exhaust system. There must be something else wrong with it. Maybe the dizzy. Good luck with it. Overall the 4.5 is a strong engine ...

It may not be of much help but I have heard the computers in the 4.5 take a lot of time to "adapt" to things, like Hi-clones etc. But this is not first hand knowledge so it may be of no use to you!

Tough Dog 9-Ways

Slight annoying problem, I have had a knock on the rear of my GU wagon since I fitted a 100mm (4") lift. I have finally narrowed it down to the shock. They are TD, 9 ways 4" over standard obviously. It's only one and it seems to knock very loud, like a thud under the rear as if something is snapped ...
