Geez Dean, offloading her already!?

I only log in here every few months these days to see what everyone is upto as work gets in the way of my wheeling too, but I didn't expect to see that!

Good luck with it pal, i'd love it, but not really a touring oriented truck from memory ;) And the old girl ...

sorry, I know that wasn't helpful but I like my petrol engine :)

haha love it!

yeah the 2.8tdi isn't exactly the most quiet of diesels.

I'd be looking at timing chain too. check the usuals, oil (obviously) and belts as it's amazing the noises a worn fan ...

Ah gotcha,

really just design basics I suppose, I'm just going back to the tafe days knowledge.

The main problem with diesels is poor combustion, they are a very cool running engine and therefore designed around that. A common problem that occurs is people try to wring the last little bit of power ...

Hey Guys,

I've just finished looking at this myself, and the numbers looked good, but I was mainly wanting the power for my heavily laden Paj. Mine is the 2.8tdi and I get 12/100 round town and 14>15/100 on the highway due to the weight/wind resistance/revs at 110k.

Diesel gas looked very good ...

Sorry for Frank, but at least it has a real home in NSW now.

Is there anything hard enough left in the wattos these days that will actually ...

Hey Burty,

I was chatting to the guy at the local battery world shop a few months ago and I asked him whether these were still available as I remembered them from when i was a mechanic about 10 years ago.

He agreed they were a good idea but suffered failures apparently so were discontinued.
I also ...

Hmmm,

good question, i have had to replace a few of them because of carcass damage from sharp rocks (get in between the tread blocks). but I'm not saying they're necessarily weak, i just think my truck is a little overladen so i can't drop the pressures as much as i really need to

The series 2 GL paj had the Non turbo 4M40, maybe have a look at that manual and see if it's similar to your setup.

we used a chassis grease by castrol in the workshop, but now i just fill up my grease gun with a decent bearing grease. probably not perfect but seems to do the job nicely.

Hey all,

don't post very often anymore, but wanted to share some info which might help someone seeing as there isn't much around about the 2.8.

Hey Dean,

I'd have a talk to a couple of the RT tent companies, I'm not sure they'd recommend putting a tent on those types of racks at all. I think they're only suitable for the gutter style rails. the static weight would be fine, it's the shiteload of corrugations that'll do the damage.

I know ...

If service records are good (including timing belt and water pump change at 200k km) and you're still keen, consider paying for an oil test - you organise it, you pay for it, you get the results sent to you. Just in case they've added something to disguise a smoky engine (I presume they can test ...

here's another thought Glenn,

if the front propshaft is moving when unlocked and it shouldn't be, then maybe it could be something like a spider gear bearing? the theory is that one axle on the super select stays connected and the other is disconnected, so the easiest thing for the still driven ...
