L28 Head bolt retorque
Here's one for the L28 gurus. I've just replaced the head on the MQ. Was told to torque head down in normal fashion, start and warm up, set valve clearance. Allow engine to cool completely then recheck head bolt torque. When I did this, torque has not changed. All the info I can get from datsun z ...

This has been covered many times before so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding info. I fixed this problem by going over everything steering/front suspension related and tightening it all to specs from manual. Not much changed until I did the swivel bearings. Has been good ever since. There ...

We use Baldwin almost exclusively at work. Heavy transport, earthmoving, tractors and 4wd. Can only remember one problem when fuel filter split but that was because high pulse filter should have been used for that application. Good filters otherwise, comparable to Fleetguard but cheaper. B118 does ...

Carbon removal
Very boring question like most of mine I put up here but I need to ask it. I've taken the head off L28 in shorty. Thought i'd done a headgasket which I had but also had cracked head. All that is being taken care of. While head is off I'd like to clean carbon off tops of pistons without disturbing ...

Removing l28 head
I'd appreciate some help from the L28 gurus. I remember something about keeping the timing chain in place when removing the head but don't remember exactly why or how. Could anyone help? I have searched the bible so please don't just answer "search". Thanks.

Has the uni been changed recently? Whether it has or hasn't doesnt make much difference, just give the yoke ears a whack with a hammer to free them up a bit. You may find this loosens them up a bit. Just be careful not to hit the yokes where the bearing caps are pressed into the shaft but up a bit ...

I've done the timing belt a couple of times as well. Gets easier the more you do it. Funny how that happens. Nothing really tricky take your time and work systematically. Worst part is probably the crank bolt. Put a socket with breaker bar on the bolt and rest the handle of the bar on the left hand ...

idle speed adjustment 6G72
G'day, I replaced the engine in the 88 NF about 8 weeks ago. All good for a while until recently the idle speed has been climbing, won't idle at less than 1500 - 1800 RPM. I have readjusted the timing to spec. and this has lowered the idle a little to around 1000-1100rpm. No air con on in neutral ...

Just digging up an old thread here. After looking around at Paj and Magna 3.0l motors I found a decent Paj motor for a reasonable price with 6 month warranty. Even though it was more than a Magna motor there will be less required to fit it. This is important as I don't want the car off the road for ...

My 3.0 ltr 6 has been running rough like it's missing a cylinder. Pulled plugs to change and found No: 5 oil fouled all others okay. New cap and rotor as well. No real difference to roughness. Adjusted timing to specs. Anything sound familiar to anyone? 330,000 kms on the clock by the way. Will do ...

I had a similar leak that went from minor to major. I thought it was an o-ring on the pipe that runs from front to back under the intake manifold. I was so convinced that this was the case that I started to pull it down to fix it only to find it was one of the small heater hoses that are at the back ...

Thanks for the reply. I replaced the water pump last year when I did the timing belt. Replaced most of the hoses at the same time as well. The hoses I didn't change were the two bypass hoses at the back of the motor. Anyway looking closely at it tonight, one of these has let go and both of them are ...

Help!
The Paj has sprung a leak. A pretty serious one as it happens. All the coolant has been pumped out through a leak at the back of the motor. I am thinking it could be from the tubes that run from front to back under the inlet manifold. The hoses are all okay. I will have to investigate more to see if ...

Two questions in one!
First, is there a mechanical fuel pump that I can use on my old mq with L28? The electric one is still good but interested in having a back up.
Second, would seats from GQ fit in the MQ? I assume the floor pan is the same or am I mistaken. I have swapped the seats for some from a dunnydore but my ...
