I've been involved with four different TDV8 79's, one is now getting close to 12 months old and has 50000 hard k's and the only problem has been fuel filters (can't blame the truck it was an exploration camp and every one had issues). A Ceduna hire vehicle with 30000k's broke down seeming to be ...

LC79 suspension

G'day Guys Trying to work out the best suspension for a LC79, looking to go up about 50mm and improve the ride a bit. Normally only carry about 200kg and wouldn't go over 500kg very often. Probably should mention it has a bull bar dual batteries and side bars and steps weighing the front down ...

79 engine performance up grades

G'day Guys

I'm looking for good places on the web to research engine performance upgrades on 79 turbos. I've pushed standard ones around bush for years and have been really happy but getting one for private use I'm thinking of getting a little more out of it.

Ran out of time this weekend to drop the oil but I did get under and have a look and there seems to be an oil leak. Fingers crossed she is just getting a little low on oil then.

Transfer case question

G'day Guys I've got a series 1 discovery that has started making a gear whining type noise which I think is coming from the transfer case. The noise seems to be related to the speed of the vehicle not the revs or gear you are in such as running down a big hill you can hear it most. If any one has ...

On the passenger side I have a wire strap going from the bottom of the block and attaches to the body behind the head light on the passenger side (infront of the second battery) the neg from the second battery is ...

Help please!! Starting problems

G'day Guys I have a 96 disco and over the last 12 months it seems to randomly decide not to start. It seems to happen after short trips say to get milk and when you kick her over all the usual dash lights come on but nothing else happens. It seemed if you used the key in the door to lock it then un ...

Yeh, I was hoping to power up my 3.9 but at 105000 K's she made the decision for me  . The full story was back in April I think the subject was "3.9 on its way to Heaven". I thought about the 5.2 or GENIII but given the hassle and the fact I'm not really a lead foot I held myself back. Can ...

G'day Philip Like you said the cam may have a bit to do with it, the boys at JRT seemed pretty proud of Dave's choice of cam in her. Shes a little bubbly at idle compared to the old 3.9 but she pulls hard all the way. The hole combination of 4.6, choice of cam, and head work along with the ...

G'day TRobbo I thought I would add my two bob, I went for warm 4.6 build up using parts from the 3.9. No dyno yet because I was planning on adding Haltec before to long but I can’t image its only got 15% torque over the 3.9 off the top of my head I thought a standard 3.9 is something like 310Nm and ...

Greasy coolant

G'day Guy's Was checking over things the other day and looked in the expansion tank, to my dismay it had quite a thick brownish greasy film over it. I ran an old tooth brush around and collected most of it out. Checked again today and there was more. In summary it’s had a new heater core hoses and ...

Well the answers in.

Just letting you know how it all turned out. It was the liners 2 had moved I did a heap of research and shopping around and decided to stay true to rover and get JRT to build up a 4.6, so like some one said earlier I had the excuse I needed to drop a 4.6 in. I choose a 4.6 short with cam and head ...

These motors have steel liners in the alloy block. The liners can move in the block, allowing exhaust gas into the coolant galleries, which pressurizes the cooling system & drives coolant out. When the motor cools down after use, coolant is drawn back into the affected cylinder- which cleans it up ...

3.9 on its way to heaven

G'day All Well up to this morning I though I had the best 96 disco in WA, seriously like new inside and out except the heap of extras I've put on it and the 100000 on the clock of which 70K I've had it for. This morning after no more then a 5 km run to the corner store she over heated faster then I ...
