GQ Death Wobble
GQ Death Wobble
Hi
I know there have been many topics on this, however most discuss GQ's with huge lifts,
My vehicle is a TD42 with 2 inch suspension and 2 inch body lift, heavy duty arms and GU Diffs
It gets the shakes really badly at around 95 - 110 km/h and I have to brake heavily to about 60 km/h and swerve the vehicle to bring it back under control
My main question is does anyone know of a good suspension specilist, mechanic's or the like that are trustworthy and will help fix the problem for me in the Brisbane or Gold Coast area's? I have recently moved from Melbourne and don't really know any places up here, I work in Rocklea and live in Labrador and am happy to travel for the right help..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Cal

Re: GQ Death Wobble
Im no help as for a place to take it but I will tell you how I just fixed my 80kph wobble .
My Nissan gq patrol had 2'' spring lift with standard front control arms and it drove fine But.
I thought I would replace some old bushes .
So I installed new caster bushes to suit 2" lift as well as new mushroom bushes +
and new panhard bushes .
Well after all this the dam car had the 80kph wobble so I removed the front control arm bolts and added two thick washers either side of the bolt s
Wobble fixed as it turns out the bolts had run out thread to do up nice and tight and needed the extra nip up
So for around $2 at bunnings just grab some washers and give it a go .
Note.. the front radius bolts where random bolts left over from a 5 link set up .

Re: GQ Death Wobble
Very common issue.
Your front pan hard buses will be shot, typically the top bush where the pan hard rod is mounted to the chassis.
Buy a new adjustable pan hard rod or just replace the bushes in your current one and it will be as good as new.

Re: GQ Death Wobble
Mine was fixed with a wheel balance where the guy actually spent 10-15 minutes on each tyre to get them right. He added over 100gm to an already "Balanced" tyre.
GQII Patrol YAY!!
Re: GQ Death Wobble

Check the swivel hub bearing preload, bushes and castor...
Re: GQ Death Wobble
yeah i agree, panhard rod bushes or radius arm bushes. get genuine rubber ones (or good quality aftermarket) if you can, as bought the cheap ebay rubber ones - didnt last one weekend on the tracks!!!

Re: GQ Death Wobble
panhard bushes will definetely make a difference. a wheel balance wouldnt go astray either.

Re: GQ Death Wobble
I've had vibrations at highway speeds that turned out to be loose nuts on the 2 inch body lift.
Another time it was a worn rear wheel bearing, just some ideas
