Descending a steep hill with over rides - get half way down, realise you are on the wrong line, try to back up, trailer brakes lock even more. Get out to engage the lockout, over ride ram is compressed just enough to stop the lockout disabling the brakes. Go back to the car get spanners, drop fluid,...

I've had a read of the manual (related to the last of the V8 100's).According to the manual the centre diff lock should only engage when the button is pushed. ie low range without the lock should be achievable. I know the earlier models locked automatically with low range. As stated the manual relat...

Offsets
Bogged, can't help much but can tell you that 16x8 51 series pro comp rockcrawler steels are series three GU offset + 17mm. I run 5 inches of lift in a series three with 285/75. Tyres still belt rear inner guards.

Intercoolers
There is a thread on this somewhere but will briefly go back over something I saw recently. I witnessed a GU three on the dyno recently. It had been fitted with an homemade frontmount setup. The thing made less power and torque post intercooler fitment. The loss was due to the amount of plumbing req...

Top mount intercoolers allow shorter piping from the turbo thru the intercooler and into the intake. Many people underestimate the importance of that fact. I recently witnessed a vehicle (GU III) that had its factory top mount removed and replaced with a custom front mount only to loose 2psi at the ...

CV's
Just about any cv in any vehicle is bustable. If your'e running big suspension, big power, big tyres, lockers, possibly low gearing and you actually drive the thing reaching somewhere near its physical limits then I don't know of any Toyota cv that is going to outsurvive a GU cv

Dreaming
The early model 80 series sucks, they're more prone to breaking stuff no matter how you drive it That's crap MC. I've had my 90 model 80 for 8 yrs and haven't broken a thing. I haven't been soft with it and have driven over terrain that 100 series and GU patrols have broken CV's, diffs and trailing...

Agree with ATS on this. Running a full set of braided on a series 3. Pedal feel is vastly improved but can't say that the thing pulls up any quicker.

I figured that by fiting drop boxes I could go back to using standard Nissan front bushes. Guessing that the factory rubber bushes would flex more than the hard bushes I'm currently using. Also thought by realigning the chassis end of the front arm it might end up with more down tavel aswell. Probab...

CookieMonster. have used a set of MTR's for the last four years. The tyres have covered about 30000klms of mainly high speed (80kph) dirt fitted to a 79series. The ute is set up as a tourer and tows an offroad camper. All up the combo weighs 4200kg. The MTR's bite hard on firm gravel and firmly pack...
