Descending a steep hill with over rides - get half way down, realise you are on the wrong line, try to back up, trailer brakes lock even more. Get out to engage the lockout, over ride ram is compressed just enough to stop the lockout disabling the brakes. Go back to the car get spanners, drop fluid ...

I've had a read of the manual (related to the last of the V8 100's).According to the manual the centre diff lock should only engage when the button is pushed. ie low range without the lock should be achievable. I know the earlier models locked automatically with low range. As stated the manual ...

There is a thread on this somewhere but will briefly go back over something I saw recently. I witnessed a GU three on the dyno recently. It had been fitted with an homemade frontmount setup. The thing made less power and torque post intercooler fitment. The loss was due to the amount of plumbing ...

Top mount intercoolers allow shorter piping from the turbo thru the intercooler and into the intake. Many people underestimate the importance of that fact. I recently witnessed a vehicle (GU III) that had its factory top mount removed and replaced with a custom front mount only to loose 2psi at the ...

Just about any cv in any vehicle is bustable. If your'e running big suspension, big power, big tyres, lockers, possibly low gearing and you actually drive the thing reaching somewhere near its physical limits then I don't know of any Toyota cv that is going to outsurvive a GU cv

runing c-c bushes in a 79 series ute and a GU wagon. The bushes work ok in the 79 but bind the GU's front up pretty bad. Probably an overkill with 3" of lift but if you are serious drop boxes or arms would be my choice. If you poke around on this site you'll find good info on this topic

Correct me if I'm wrong but here goes: Mogs 404. Centres:3.54:1, Hubs: 2.13:1. Total = 7.54:1 Sam would be able to tell you exactly but I think his rover was running about a 6.7:1 first gear with 2:1 low range. Ends up at 100:1. Don't know if all 404's have the same ratios.

Just reread the thread and was just wondering what Duncan meant when he said that you don't have to use the thin gears. Do you mean the backlash eliminator. I put a set of Marks in mine and he supplied a new one for the large end of the idler. It appears as though I'm easily confused.
