Outer Limits 4x4 Board

My HJ61 at indicated 100kph reads 2350rpm in 5th. 4.1:1.
Actual is about 102kph using sat nav on level ground with 50% 33s. Not bad given the crude mechanical speedo & tacho which are probably a bit worn too.

3 inch is the go but the biggest gain can be found in improvements to the turbo dump pipe flow. The stock unit is ok but look for aftermarket options. I have a Beaudesert Exhaust dump pipe - ring them, they may post one to you..... I think they come with a fitting for a pyro too.

I have an ARB deluxe bar and use the red OUTBACK IDEAS recovery 'hoops'. They bolt up to the chassis from underneath where the bar mounts. About $100 for the deuce from TJM.

I'm about to fit a front mount as well. I bought a 2nd hand cooler that uses the A/C condensor mounts. 2 inch pipes. It will sit about 2 inches in front of the condesor. I may have to delete the grille though.... :?

Same problem. Mine even does it on the black-top!!!

I've tried different return springs (only heavier though). Made no difference.

Has anyone used the tjm winch bar winch-mounting section only and then built a custom bar around it?

I think they're only about $250 and the tjm winch bar bolts on/around it.

Hey Tyson, don't wanna thow a spanner in the works - but have you considered 'add a coil'. I was going to go this way with my 61, but ended up with heavy kings - but they are damn heavy !!

The coils will push the axle down rather than rely on the other side being pushed up. 60s need a pretty heavy ...

These are solid trucks and when cared for will continue to keep on rollin'...

I paid 11K for my 87 HJ61 two years ago from a yard. 1 owner with 225ks - NO rust.

Like any old truck - consider repairs / improvements:

I've added 16in sunnys and 285/75 MT tyres - $1500, full suspension - $2200, dump ...

Engine, turbo, exhaust, air inlet are all fine. That's why I'm thinking injectors... I'll check the mechanical advance thingy though.

I'm getting close to intercooling my 12ht in HJ61 and want to ensure the injection side is ok first. 265,000 on the clock with orginal injectors. I know these things don't rev, but in normal driving, to achieve anything over 2500rpm is an effort....

Pretty simple exercise for a 12h-t.

EGT - install post turbo - 500 deg C is common.

In this order: check / adjust tappets & timing, increase max boost to 10psi, add or reduce fuel so that max EGT is 500 deg (wide open throttle in 3rd gear up steep hill until it slows to about 1400rpm).

GQ was '89 shorty petrol on staight gas. 310ks.
61 is 12h-t. '87 G pack with 5 speed. 250ks.

Average 10.8L/100km. 60% highway. speedo indicates over-read by 4% according to GPS.

Don't get me wrong - the Torquegas system is good. For my mechanical 12h-t, it is fine and offers a noticable addition to performance.

I'm not aware of any replacement of the system over time - it's only a tank and a pressure switch.

I had the tank fitted under the fuel tank. It's a 20L (useable) tank made by Manchester (I think). A simple modification was made to the spare wheel cross brace to mount the tank. I run the 7.50R16 spare inside the car - like an XJ Cherokee. I've not hit the tank ...

After much debating with ARB, I've received a full refund for the springs. $666.

I installed the TOY061 & TOY062 KING springs last night. Twas a late night !!

At the moment it is sitting +45mm at the front and +25mm in the rear ...

what a beast. if only !!!
