Re: whats what when it comes to the wranglers ???

Spending 1200-1500 to gain a saving 1-2mpg ??
It will take a while to recoup that.
Sorry I stand solidly behind my opinion that they are simply not worth the money.

Re: whats what when it comes to the wranglers ???

GUtripper's assessment on the TJ isn't too bad. But if I might add a bit more info. IMHO THE TJ D30 is a better unit than the JK D30. They are an underestimated diff with LOADS of upgrades available, they also offer great ground clearance. but if going bigger than 35"s with hard use is planned than ...

Re: JK 2.8L CRD reliability.

The up side is that VM Motori is not a Chrysler owned company - they have been making diesel engines for.... yonks, so whilst chrysler based supply may be less than perfect the original manufacturer of the engine is there as backup. The diesel electronics are made by Bosch so once again your not ...

Re: Big wheels Under an XJ

Hi... I know quite less about the vehicles but talking about the Jeeps, I am sure this is the only vehicle that can go to the harder areas any other Jeep can go. This is because of the body manufacturing and the technique that has been used in it that makes it more stronger. errr...no. In theory ...

Re: Unimog 404 diffs

Just a suggestion - see if you can get the 419's - There was a bloke on POS selling them for $2500/pair a few months back.
That way you get disc brakes and even more strength. Plus a few other benefits.

Re: D300 guru's

If you mean during articulation, won't it drop a few degrees as the top arms are shorter than the lowers on a 4 link + panhard ? Have run it with the front shaft only in and vibes are gone, so thinking it must be the rear shaft. Has been suggested I will have to run a Double Cardin joint to get rid ...

Re: Gassing a cherokee?

My last beater Chero ran LPG.
Biggest issue IMHO is where to put the tank - especially if running dual fuel.
I have the scuba tanks in the back and had a plywood false floor over that.
Worked ok - but did rob a fair bit of room.

Re: D300 guru's

Keep in mind the pinion will climb a few degrees, thus reducing the operating angle at the pinion end and incrasing the difference.
I'd prefer the pinion to be about 1deg lower than the t/case.

Re: grand cherokee rear diff

Yes....Sort of.... The width is correct and the bolt pattern is correct....and they both might be D35"s but.... You'd need to remove the leaf spring perches & shock mounts. Then burn on control arm mounts, coil buckets and new shock mounts. Then you'd most likely need to regear the std XJ ratio (3 ...

Re: JK 2.8L CRD reliability.

My biggest concern with the CRD is the long term avai;lability of parts - since this model was never available in the US there just isn't the vast amount of replacement parts that there is for the petrol engines.

Re: low range

If you look at the linkage there is a small plastic block with a bolt in it - this is intended for adjusting the shifter. If that doesn't work to your satisfaction then the ideal solution is to ditch the crappy factory design that mount half on the body & half on the t/case - to a kit like one from ...

If it ain't a Jeep I don't give a rats for it. Re: VooDoo's CJ5 + LS1 Project

That's one shiny camry project. Although it doesn't really demonstrate a knowledge of high HP in a 4wd application ;) Personally I think the Transfer case & diffs would need to be replaced with 500hp and I think the chassis would require substainal reinforcement. Not sayinbg it can't be done or ...

if you want to run patrol bushes, tap the ally and weld some thread to the bush tube. It is not all that expensive for 7000 series ally. Then the threaded rod becomes the weak point, and how strong the bar is doesn't matter then. The link is only as strong as the rod going into it. That is not ...
