I did heaps of stick welding on my rear 60 series diff with everything still attached and in one piece and had no trouble with it at all....welded the spring perches (for the spring over conversion)and track bar mounts.

when I bought my 40 series cruiser 2 years ago ,I spoke to the rta guy about the soa on the car to make sure it was legal and so on before buying it...He told me that the soa was perfectly legal and didnt need an engineers certificate at all...The vehicle has also passed rego inspection 2 years ...

the best steering column to use is one out of a 55 series cruiser which can be a drama just finding one as they are rare as... not sure how a sixty series column will bolt up to the body work but at the end of these columns near the firewall end is a uni joint. How I did mine before I found a 55 ...

this is one of the reasons why I would like to convert my 40 to V8 but dont trust any of the shops in sydney to do it.....You want a good job done first time with a reasonable quote to do it...not end up with horror stories and bitterness to follow for a long time....

stuff buying anti spatter spray and paying a fortune for it. use good old 99c spray pak cooking oil like that is used on the barbie. was told this by father outlaw who is an ex welder didnt believe it until i tried it myself. it works its the same thing! yep as he said the good ol no name canola ...

easily fixed with a bit of tube or pipe same diameter and some steel plate to gusset over the joins of the tube all neatly welded....piece of cake ;)

dont forget to weld in crush tubes where the steering box mounts to the chasssis rail...if you forget these like I have seen on one particular vehicle the steering will end up crap when the box starts to become loose due to flex and distortion of the chassis rail.. I used m12 high tensile bolts ...

I am just about to start building my six point cage for my 40 series soft top cruiser and am using 48.3mm x 3.2mm wall thickness tubing...hope to start bending the stuff next week..:lol:

Go lockers first...makes driving so much better and you will rarely need a winch once you have them...
I have Arb air lockers front and rear and can go places now that I couldnt go before....they arent cheap but I am glad I have them fitted... :)

definatley cruiser 40 series...which I have already done....very easy to work on....being 6`5 tall and 135 kg I wouldnt fit in a zook anyway....lol
though I wouldnt think a zook would be that hard to modify and work on as well...Have seen a couple of nice ones get around too..

At last I am running 39.5 super swampers after waiting months for them...anyway took em out for a run a couple of weeks ago and they are heaps better going over the rough stuff after being use to running around on 35s....since I dont have the required gearing yet in the transfer case and the clutch ...

yeah I did mine with a 2 inch lift and used nylon type blocks...all I used was the hi lift jack to raise the body to put the spacer blocks in place....steering will be the only real problem but I went 60 series power steering box further up the rail...you will have to extend the front gaurds and ...
