It's all to do with the structural integrity. If the vehicle relies on the doors being in place to maintain a certain level of rigidity then they must not be removed. The simple answer is this: If the vehicle complies with ADR 37 (I think it's 37) then you must run doors. If your vehicle doesn't ...

Look at it this way, if you caused a multiple car accident, could you afford for your insurer to reject your claim?? Now, this is only considering the financial aspect. What is you injured or killed someone?? I'm not in a hurry to meet Big Bubba in jail. I think it's definitely worth the time and ...

About 35% up and 65% down is the best ratio to start with. It's the best ratio based on what??????? If that's your personal opinion, then fair enough. If you think think that your suggested ratios are the "best" across the board for all rockcrawlers then please elaborate. I agree that everything is ...

Sam, I wasn't aware of the steel on steel ruling. I thought that there was just a blanket rule over the use of heims. Do you have anything in print from the RTA about that?? Something I could keep in my 4wd along with my eng. certificates or send to my insurer? That's good news though, I was going ...

Grimbo, do you know if the boat trailer had brakes on it?? I can just imagine this sierra trying to stop quickly with that huge boat behind it!!! JACK KNIFE!!! To fit the supra engine in (I guess you mean a 7M straight six), Was the nose extended or did the transmission tunnel expand and become a ...

I've had mine cruising at just over 140km/h. This was back when I was using it as a daily driver with the vit eng and 32" BFG's. I was just keeping up with the traffic. On the highway, in certain 110km/h zones, people figure if they're going to do more than 125km/h, then they may as well do 139km/h ...

It would be great to use a corner scale and find out what the weight distribution is. The weighbridge that I've used is around the corner from where I get my sierra certified. Its just a truck depot with large silos full of cement product of some sort. So the trucks drive in, get weighed, load up ...

What does your sierra weigh??
Ok guys, we often talk about the light weight advantage of the sierra and there is always a debate over using a heavier drivetrain. I weigh 1280kg with the setup that you see in my sig (effectively a hilux drivetrain), including an extremely heavy spare (it was a split rim), ARB winch bar, recovery ...

Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the looped hoses. It is physically impossible for water to get into the hose with a loop in it (unless you roll over while submerged ). I run three loops in my vents which are located in my engine bay, a fuel filter on the open end wouldn't hurt though. Regards ...

Lockright Price??
Just a quickie,
I haven't looked at prices for Lockrights for a year or two and was just wondering how much a 2nd hand lockright to suit a 4 pinion hilux diff would go for??
Thanks,
Matt.

To set the record straight, if you have a lockright that uses the sierra's sidegears, then yes you can put it in the front using the front sierra sidegears. If you have a lockright that comes with the replacement sidegears (or couplers as they are called) then no you can't put it in the because the ...

The sierra diff might be the easiest option but unless you were staying with 31's or smaller I wouldn't even consider it. If you were going to do all of that work just use hilux diffs and be done with it. If you ever break CV's just buy some longfields and you would have a pretty hard time breaking ...

I put the 4AGE in the same basket as the GTi engine. They're great for the sand or street where you need horsepower, but suck if you want low down torque. I've driven Corolla's with the stock 4AGE and there was absolutely nothing below 4000RPM. Sure it may have pulled through to 8000RPM but I wouldn ...

Sam, You mentioned in posts on pirate that with the holey bushes you were getting 12 inches of travel (at the shock I think). If you could optimise the chassis mount bush angle and perfect the holey bushes, do you think that this travel could be increased by much? In other words, what do you think ...

I agree with Grimbo that there is such a thing as too much flex. People get their priorities around the wrong way aswell. What good is something that ramps over 1000 on a 30* ramp if you can't sidehill at even say 40*??? Also, that second shot of the black suzi is a classic example of why too much ...
