All the reports have the earlier GU TD42T as much better than the TD42Ti (intercooled) after some mods -- aftermarket intercooler, fatter turbo dump pipe, replaced exhaust with mandrel bends, and tuned to suit with increased fuel and a bit more boost.

H260 also in Manual 4.5 Petrols 98 on & Manual 3.0 TD 2000 - 2003 (at least)....

But Nissan did stuff aroiund & put H233 under some 3.0TD manuals & H260 under some 3.0 TD autos.

But that is a H233 diff in the pics.....

Can also be piced in a stock GU (ie no housing swaps) by the ...

How much would it cost to buy these engines (TB45 & TB48) and all the required bits and put it into my gq shorty? (If 4.5 and 4.8 are similar price I would choose 4.8)

I know that Alljap in Virginia brisbane had a 4.8 not sure if it is sold ...

But the forward facing scoop is usually to force air through an air-air intercooler.

If you just force air into the engine bay without pushing it through the i/c core then you may cause havoc due to a big pressure change and the engine fan or thermofans on the radiator won't be as effective then ...

Still sitting under the bonnet of a white GQ that rarely goes out anymore.

As for getting my hands dirty, I didn't even do that, due to the nice clean petrol that was in it.

Yeah it has some lift, about 3 or 4" coils + 285's.......

The enigine crane did the job only on the longest boom setting, supposedly only 1/2 ton rated out there though.

We were talking about giving it a 2 or 3" body lift where the vertical section bolts down & two longer straps at the back ...

Brent at Wizard has Konis for 5+ inch lifts..... they aren't cheap being revalved truck shocks. As to length in a 4" kit - I'm not sure.

One other point, what about competition spec tyres?

In mud there is a big step again from say BF Goodrich Mud Terrains to Simex Extreme Trekker "Centipede" tyres.

The 4.88 gears I got from GJ Gears said GQ on the box. When I rang they said the diffs are the same (except for the 4.8 and I think some 3.0).

He's at Nile St Woolloongabba, does alot of riceboy stuff, but he has done good stuff on a mates GQ with his dyno. You will be more limited as the late model GQ's have different pistons which aren't as tolerant of that level of boost off a Safari turbo. I'm waiting to see the dyno ...

Cool tyres!!! Next get some 205R16's and fit them.... or I could drag the 235/85R16 on Pajero rims out of the cobwebs and put them on the GU.....and get photos (whilst smokin them on the new "traffic control device" down the road)....

I have had the power steer belt break and while it was really heavy I could still steer my 4.5 petrol GU at low or high speeds with 35" Centipedes, it is just heavy as to turn at low speed, but 60 kph it cornered OK.

Drove it for a day or so till I could get a belt, just had to get wire shiite ...

Oh you almost bring a tear mentioning the Strand & the Cri (Townsville) - spent 3 months fly in fly out a couple of years back.....

Anyway, a couple of points, when running decent boost ~17psi on a 91 era GQ, the pump cannot deliver more than +100% over standard fuel, a mate had fuel starvation ...

........And with the A.R.B air compressor now ready to install int the mav ,
So to every1 out there where have you fixed yours ( engine bay or under the seat).............

Dont really like the under the seat idea due to the fact that the amount on heat comes from the compressor and the noise ...

Already have em from Nov last year, arrived day before I left on holidays and fitted up after lapping and square cut on teeth fixed about 3 weeks after I got back.

Had to wait that long becoz Xmas shutdown got in the way.

Love 'em makes the 4.5 petrol GU go down hills nicely and just ...

I would add, that in relation to the park, there is a shift away from the old style events which could be run on flat ground by dozing some jumps, mud trenches etc, to the extreme end where big rocky hills, big rocks, creek beds etc are used.

3.0 Petrol GQ had a diff ratio of 4.375:1.

This can be checked by looking at the plate under the bonnet which has a transaxle code. The last 2 numbers show the diff ratio - ie 41 = 4.111 43 = 4.375 etc....

Assuming no one has got in and swapped them for 4.625 or 4.111 of course.

Kings do wind 7" springs custom for Wizard on the gold coast. As used by Big Red, can get a full kit with either Rancho or Koni (revalved truck shocks).

Dobinson are good but do sag sooner or later. A mates tourer Maverick on 3" springs lasted 2 years before he replaced the rear coils. Fronts ...

There are only a couple of turbo diesel GQ's on the road.....

most are happy with the std 85kw at the flywheel........

There are shitloads, many running like 12, 14, 16, 20 psi boost depending on the motor's age, kilometres, maintenance etc.

Tony, that was the idea. Leave the Mav in the main street of Brisvagas ( it will be safer there than at an Outer limits house, atleast only the wheels will be gone.) And fly up and back for XRCC and Short corse.

Look at CFM airflow through the different filters. The foam (from ads) flows similar to OE paper when clean but severely restricted when dusty.

K&N flows in excess of OE paper when clean and similar when needing a clean. A mate also runs a K&N in his 91 TD42T GQ patrol, has done for a few years ...

I checked my GU 4.5 Petrol 12/98 and it has the transaxle code ending in HH41 with the H260 (big) diff (I am fairly sure of this). My gearbox code is the same, but it does have different ratios in it I think to the Turbo diesel.
