I think that sort of usage is about normal. My 3.9 in a disco used the same.

Asking way too much. I had a similar set-up in a 1997 Tdi, and I could only get $5000, and mine was in way better condition with a bigger fule tank to boot.

Re: Why are Land Rovers So Expensive?

So, not technically Tech, but definately about Rovers Since the old landcruiser is getting a bit old, was starting to browse online to see whats around, and landrovers peaked my interests, both the shortys and 110's. Not so many 2nd hand, and the newer ones are still fetching big prices. So, im ...

Re: tyre size s1 disco

The rubbing happens at full articulation. You either had something limiting articulation or you were not doing things to flex the suspension to the maximum. They rubbed lots underneath the top of the wheel arch - didn't worry me, was just a reminder that it was fully flexing, but I never needed to ...

Re: going through brakes to quick

Actually sounds normal, you need to try different pad compounds. You will be using a LOT of brakes stopping 35s. The mud driving doesn't help either.

Re: going through brakes to quick

Are your brakes working properly, that is do they stop the vehicle? How much pressure do you need to apply on the brake pedal in order to stop? What brand pads? If you have good brakes, but the pads are wearing fast then you may need a harder compound. If it feels like the brakes are always on then ...

Re: opinions please on my tyre/rim combo.

Mud tyres are a PITA in sand. Bald old road tyres are more than satisfactory and at low pressures (12-15 psi or less if possible with beadlocks). You will be disappointed with the performance of any mud tyres in sand - get used to being on the wrong end of a snatch strap as you will be forever ...

Go very well as a tourer, half shafts shouldn't be a problem for that use. You can buy lockers etc. for them - with the strong dollar many LR owners are buying all sorts of stuff from the UK where there is an amazingly vast amount of kit available at good prices. Comfy as. Better with a diesel, I ...

Everyone is putting yank V8's in there cruisers and patrols because nissan/toyota don't give us any horsepower and there parts are worth the weight in gold compared to anything mass produced for the american motors. Really depends on what you want to do with it. My choice would be a Series 1 Discovery for around $4000, then you have cash left over for mods and repairs. Nearly all Discovery 1s that are still on the road will be OK, time has weeded the lemons out. Parts availability is excellent, and seems to be ...

I painted an XD Falcon panel van with Galmet hammertone paint using a roller about 16 years ago. Looked good then, and for the next 4 years that I had the car. Would probably do it again if I needed to. Covers up rust really well. Also hides dents, chips etc. I used Gun metal grey metallic.
