Re: gq patrol wheel shake.

If it's not the panhard bushes it will be the king pins. I went through all this sh*t with my pig, bite the bullet and bought a swivel hub rebuild kit. All fixed now.

Think it was a friday job actually, took all day, first hub took the longest. Safaris/patrols are very simple vehicles to work on compared to others :D

Re: swivel hub kit installation.

Its a pretty easy job really, just take your time. Hardest part was getting the seals out from under the king pin bearings without stuffing them. Also remember how many shims you take from each side top and bottom and put the same back. Then start taking or adding to get the right feel. It all comes ...

Re: Transfer issues ??

Did you set the clearances correctly for the auto locker. What you describe is typically and auto lokka working intermittently in 4H. I had a similar issue, took the lokka out, replaced the springs and dowels as they were broken and reset the clearances. No problem anymore. A front auto lokka is ...

Re: Nissan X Trail

I would never take on off road. They are only capable of loose gravel roads and ski roads. We had one come on a fundraiser trip that we were running for the local church. The tracks were all two wheel drive except for one hill, only because of the apparent steepness (it wasn't) and loose gravel. It ...

Re: old pathfinders

Firstly they are IFS up front and sort of limit you to a degree. To lift the front you will need to reindex and wind the torsion bars. Once you go over the standard tyre size for them they start chewing fuel. To fit 33" you will need to do a body lift, suspension lift and cut guards. The standard ...

Try the states, they are a dime a dozen over there. The manuals from the states are alot more comprehensive then the haines or gregory's ones. I had one for my old '94 pathfinder.

Re: Looks like my factory locker is dead

Mine had a similar issue. I had the gears remade by a racer gear maker, fitted aftermarket solenoids and it works everytime now. In and out as fast as an airlocker. Having the gears remade made such a big difference in it's operation. The fork is cast and is very difficult to wled but I managed to ...

Just put it in, you won't look back. Just check that all the dog gears and the locking gear doesn't have rounded edges, they should be square. If they are rounded it has difficulty staying looked or even going into lock. I had my gear re-built by a gear maker, it goes in and out as quick as an ...

I bought a heap of chinese ones about four years ago for $5 NZ each. They never leak, but then they get changed annually, along with the wheel bearings, inner and outer seals as well. If I bust a CV in the bush, they get changed as well.

Have you had any problems with yours when pushing it hard on the beach, mud or sand?
Don't use in these situations as it only digs the pig in deeper. I use it only when going through cross axle stuff and wheels come off the ground. Got an auto lokka up front working all the time though.

There's also the Detroit Locker option for your front diff, which is better than a Lokka. Just to let you know ! The're copies of each other, one just doesn't cost an arm and a leg in US$. As for ARB, would never go near one. Too many things can go wrong like holes in airlines, air pump failure. AL

point taken, but the breakages only occurred after the fitting of 35" silverstones. I will give your theory a go though. I found without the rear axle I gained more wheelspin to clear the tread thus digging and gaing more traction. It is definitely engaged in off camber, slower speed stuff.
