I know that you want to keep it legal and use the standard shackles, but if you used longer shackles it would resolve your issue of bottoming the shackles out on the chassis....

I've heard those boxes have a plastic or rubber thingy where the stick goes into the box and it wears too much and you have trouble selecting gears.

Try pulling the stick out of the box and see what you can find.

Why do I need castor at all? can't I just have zero castor? I disagree with your theory rickzta. Positive castor will make it similar to the rake angle of a motorcycle front wheel. The faster you go the more stable it will be but will turn in faster at low speed and less likely to straighten up when ...

OK I get it I think.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I'm about to SOA my FJ40 and put 38.5's on it too and I want to get it right.

When I cut and rotate do I need to make the king pin directly vertical or slightly offset. Is this what castor angle refers to?

What does "toe in" and "camber" mean? I think castor is the angle the diff points up at the gearbox right? Does "toe in" mean the front tires are slighty pigeon toed? And camber is the angle they tyres sit related to the diff isn't it? eg /--o--\ instead of them being straight like |--o--|. Am I ...

Most transfer cases will do this. It's because there is still load against the gears inside from the slightly different rates the front and rear wheels travel at due to steering. Try unlocking your front hubs before you try and pull it out of 4wd. It also helps if you are rolling slightly in a ...

Got a 1UZ-FE Lexus 4.0L quad cam alloy block V8 to put into my FJ40 with the standard box and transfer Pros: - Wanted an injected engine so I could climb cliffs - Cheap as buying a holden V8 or falcon 6 (got a '97 front cut for $1200) but it weighs less with more power - 192kW standard - 6 bolt ...

I have a 2003 RA rodeo 2x4 with 163000k's (work car). It's had 2 engine rebuilds and still needs 1litre of oil for every 1000k's. Cam gears whine cos they're spring loaded - the more they wear (with age) the more they whine. Piston skirts are too short and suffer from severe piston slap which ...

I haven't measured mine but my 38.5 inch Baja Claws are a bit bigger than my 38.5 Super Swamper SX's when put side by side. The Interco website says the OD of the super swampers are actually 38.5" http://www.intercotire.com/site30.php So I guess my 38.5 Claws are a bit bigger than 38.5"???? Hope ...

Oh yeah, I already know that I'll need to change all the spring mounts for the later model springs and move my top shock mounts. I'm going to use 60 series diffs and cut and turn them when I do the SOA so I will get the castor right then.

Should I put 60 or 75 series springs in my FJ40

I am going to replace my FJ40 springs with either 60 or 75 series springs to gain some more articulation. I've done a fair bit of reading up on it on here but I've still go a few questions: From what I understand, FJ40 fronts and backs are the same (fronts have more leaves obviously). Up front - I ...

I want maximum articulation so 75 series would be the go cos they're longer yeah? What springs are you using wicked ...

I am looking into doing a similar conversion on my FJ40. From what I can gather, 55 series steering column is the go as it already has the bearing at the bottom but it's a little longer in the cab, but still very similar to the 40 series'. As for intermediate shafts, I'm told that if you use a 60 ...
