95 series Prado rear bar
Anyone have a design /plans for a Prado rear bar - TX with flairs, so it needs to match the contours on the corners. I rolled mine off going down Monkey Gum on Saturday, popped the clips and bent the lower bolt brackets. Easily fixed but it's not held on by much, so an upgrade is warranted. Looks ...

Re: Toyota landcruiser HJ60 12HT Engine noise after overhaul
Yup, that's a bad noise. Does sound like a bottom end knock.
I thought you were getting oil into the air filter, not that the oil filter was leaking. It's probably just loose.

Re: Toyota landcruiser HJ60 12HT Engine noise after overhaul
Without being able to actually hear it....first guess would be a rocker not adjusted correctly - i.e. valve clearances not set, although this is usually evident across the rev range. Second, based on oil in the filter, it could be that he has screwed up and broken some rings when installing and this ...

Re: Prado VSC TRC light stays on
It gets better - after doing the Zero Point Calibration to reset the VSC (lights went out), the traction control now engages in low range at random - hammers away at all 4 wheels and locks the brakes. Made the trip on Sunday interesting in a few places, usually lock on the brakes at the top of an ...

Re: Prado VSC TRC light stays on
Is the ABS light on too? Engine light? Sounds like an ABS sensor or harness fault. A scanner will tell you which wheel. No ABS light, which is the odd thing. Pulled the ABS sensors and cleaned them last night, checked the harnesses and plugs, all good. ABS is working, but the traction control is ...

Re: 60 series cruiser gearbox and holden 5l into an 83 hilux
In simple terms - engine, can be done with an adaptor to the Hilux box, 60 Series gearbox wouldn't be feasible without huge mods to the chassis, body etc. The 'cruiser box is huge compared to a Hilux box. Also the rear output on the cruiser is offset where the Hilux drive is central out the back of ...

Prado 2001 TX 1KZE auto, 170k kms This is a new one- Start car, dash lights up, self check happens, all lights go out. Engage drive, move off, the VSC TRC and VSC Off lights come on and stay on. Happens in forward and reverse. Car drives ok, haven't had a chance yet to test the VSC or the traction ...

Prado headlight failure
2001 TX 1kze ~170k. I've owned this about 6 years now, fitted with 100/90w globes and a pair of Oscar spotties just after I bought it. On Friday, about 6am, flicked the headlights on, brief flash and then nothing. Parkers and tailights still worked. Initial investigation found the 2x10amp fuses ...

I've found the main reason the wiper seals leak is because the inner seal has failed, diff oil gets into the hubs and since the felt wiper seals are only meant for grease - they leak. The inner seal can be replaced without distrubing the swivel bearings at all. If they're not notchy or exhibit play ...

About 8 years ago in Hobart I saw a turbo/intercooled 80 advertised (dealer) for a reasonable price so went for a look. Dealer wanders over extolling the virtues of the turbo, telling me "it's a factory job" - on a 91 Standard...... Not sure which factory. The turbo looked not quite big enough for a ...

80-100 series diff centre
Any one now how different the 80 rear diff is from a 100? I have an ARB locker in the Truk at the moment, want to know if it will fit a 100 series, either as a complete centre drop in or to replace the carrier. The carrier is originally out of my old 60, so has served well. With the 80 up for ...

Fully floating
Apparently the semi floaters are all US spec. Aftermarket drums are availalble, but they're only 68mm deep (measured inside from back of drum). Mine are close on 100mm, which means the hub must also be longer. Anyone else out there with a '91 Standard (barn door) 'cruiser with rear drums? How wide ...

Early 80 series rear brakes
A long time ago, in a far away land.... Toyota fitted drums on the first of the 80 series. I've chewed one up slightly and went to get a replacement. The aftermarket drums turned up and "What the...?" they're 25 mm narrower. Brake guy informs me that the Truk is fitted with a "heavy duty" rear end ...

If it's anything like the 1300 series Inter fire trucks i used to fix, you can't get parts for them. The front diff was a modified 44 - basically a rear diff with steering knuckles welded on, and was built in Australia for a very limited period. They were however set up with a 392 V8 and an Allison ...

Yup, the auto grease has probably already started attacking the rubber. Repco Red Rubber grease is the go, nowhere as messy as black moly grease. (jumping grease - sticks like #$@# to everything!!!!) I know this has probably been done, but a search didn't really find what I was after so... The steel cable on the Warn Hi-mount is shagged, too many years of abuse and is now kinked back under itself, completely jammed.
