Gearbox Problems

G'day all, My sierra's gearbox is playing up, It clunks into first second and third and if I stop in neutral it's almost impossible to get back into first. The clutch seems fine doesnt stall or lag so is this a sign that the gearbox is dying or that the clutch is dying? any info is greatly apreciated

I had a mechanic look at it and he said it was the pinion bearing but it would have probably damaged the gears and therefore need to replace the lot, what would be involved in removing the pinion bits to swap them? I don't think I'd bother swapping parts as I'd probably end up with 2 shit diffs ...

Diff Issues

G'Day all,

Quick question about my diffs, my rear diff is stuffed and I have no money :( can I swap the front and rear centers as a cheap (FREE) fix for now? what are the differences in each end? Mines an 88 Build Suzuki Sierra 1.3 WT Hardtop.

Ha Ha, you get 80k's before it says half a tank! mine is usually about 50, I've had it drop to half as low as 12k's from filling up. I too get 250k's to a 34L tank, brings up some questions about the little 1.3 but it's good to hear I'm not the only one with these issues.+ I use the Tectaloy coolant ...

I was quoted $365 from bearing wholesales in Bayswater, for the complete kit to re build the transfer case myself. Does this sound right or are there cheaper options?

does anyone have a good tranny lying around?

how hard is it to DIY a tranny?

Thanks Guys, Just ran with the Tcase in Neutral, Good Idea that, theres a definate marbles rolling around kind of noise. I've narrowed it down to output of gearbox or input to Tcase. The noise is coming from that area and it is output speed related rather than input rev related. I'm pretty sure it's ...

Noise!! I cant drown it out with the stereo any more!

Ok, the noise starts at about 60kph and contiues to get louder/higher pitch as speed increases. It goes away when clutch pedal is depressed (clutch disengaged??) then comes back as soon as pedal is released. (same pitch in any gear, pitch is relevant to speed. revs also have no effect) Can anyone ...

What if you take the flares off and put a spacer with moulding or filler to move them out a bit? I havnt done this or anything, just an idea, has the potential to look really good or really gay.

How much was the fine? how far out do your tyres stick? should I expect to be pulled over soon?

I was kidding about dumping them in the street. The tyres came off a troopy to put on muddies, they're Road Grippers so by definition they are crap thought i'd offer them could get someone out of trouble if they got baldies

Tyre Dumping

Hey,

I've got a set of Dunlop Road Grippers, they're still good for another 7000K's if anyone wants em, other wise I'm told it's like 15 bucks to dump them at the tip. Does anyone know where toget rid of them free? otherwise they're going to the vacant block up the street at 3am ;)
